Here is the fixed webflash.bin with working 5GHz. The next public release or the one after should include this entire fix. Not sure when the shift to a mac80211 driver will happen just yet, but it looks like it is coming soon.

The Buffalo WHR-600D should be able to be successfully updated to 43711 (07-08-2020) with fully functional wifi now. The only thing of note is that the 5GHz radio will not do client/repeater modes due to driver limitations: https://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/3319. A big thank you to @adrian6275 for reviving this thread and @BrainSlayer for finding and fixing the problem!
