I have experience in flashing that stuff since over 10 years and dd-wrt is the first one, which bricked it.
All other was able to be recovered using the Asus tool or CFE webserver, but dd-wrt is to stupid to support that as it seems and killed it totally.

I flashed my rt-ac3200 to dd-wrt. To get it back to stock, I put the router in recovery mode then flashed it using tftpd32.

I also tried to put it in recovery mode, but it does not start in recovery mode.
I gave my network card 192.168.1.99 + subnet 255.255.255.0 and never get a response when doing 30-30-30 reset or just try to boot in recovery mode. So also tftp method wouldn't work.

Forget 30/30/30. How are you putting it into recovery mode?
Worse case scenario use serial recovery. If you don't want to do it, I will do I if you pay two way shipping.
I fixed another member's rt-ac68u this week with serial recovery.
Neither he nor I could get it into recovery mode. I have done that plenty of times, so I know I was doing it correctly.

Trying to flash the latest, r31924, to my new RT AC3200. Only leads to the miniweb CFE page. I've tried flashing from Merlin, Tomato, and with the Asus Restoration tool. Nothin seems to work. I've also tried flashing the previous build with the same results.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks. I was finally able to get build r30949 to boot. But then it would stop working when trying to set up a repeater bridge.

Ultimately, I was able to flash to Kong's latest(5/11) beta build. And THAT seems to be working beautifully.

hi, first af all, thank you to all that participate to the development to the RT-AC3200 firmware.
I have been using dd-wrt since it early days and just wanted to share my personal experience with the firmware on this specific hardware.
I initially try to install the latest release from June 2017 and could not undestand why it would not work, tried the recovery tool and still nothing so I decided to try it backward.... I downloaded all the version from june 2017 all the way to december 2015...yep...
And one after another, they failed flashing until.... the latest release of december 2015
I also flash the latest Kong, this flashed but no internet...
At this point the only firmware fully functional are AsusMerlin and "Tomato by Shibby"
I would really love to use dd-wrt like I am on my 890L and my EA6900 but at this point, no happiness there.
Again, this is not a complain, just an explanation of my current situation with dd-wrt on the AC3200
Hope this can help

Try this build ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/12-15-2016-r30949/asus-rt-ac3200/asus_rt-ac3200-firmware.trx followed by http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_R8000.bin
After flashing the last one telnet into the router and issue an erase nvram or turnoff the router hold in and keep holding in the wps button while turning the router on.
When the power led flashes rapidly let go of the wps button and let it boot then try setting it up.

Just a quick question: is it possible to use the RT-AC3200 with different operating modes at the same time?

I would like to use the 2.4GHz and the first 5 GHz interface in access point mode and the second 5 GHz interface in bridge mode (to connect it to my main router).

I tried last year, and there seemed to be a driver limitation that resulted in the device bootlooping when doing this kind of setup. I had to reset using the serial interface.

I've been doing exactly what you are trying to do for at least 3 or 4 years with various routers including this one.

Thanks for the heads up!

Do I need to do anything specific instead of flashing dd-wrt first and then the Kong K3 AC build mentioned above?

I just want to make sure I don't run into the same issue again. When I tried in January, there still was some kind of driver limitation that did not allow the kind of configuration I want and which got me stuck in a bootloop.

Kong doesn't have a file for first flash. Flash the bs build first.
