Hi I've installed the recommended DD-WRT (dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin) into an old WRT54G v8 and am hoping to use it as a repeater for our U-Verse NVG510 router.
Following this procedure http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wlan_Repeater, am getting access to the secondary network, and can ping the IP address for it successfully (wireless), but a ping to the NVG510 IP (192.168.1.254) returns `Request timeout for icmp_seq*`. Needless to say ping to google.com returns `cannot resolve`.
Security disabled for both networks.
The NVG510:
Mode: B/G
Device IPv4 is 192.168.1.254.
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
DHCP start 64 end 253
The WRT54G:
192.168.1.253
Wireless mode: repeater
SPI firewall disabled
Block WAN Requests: filter multicast
Network Configuration: Bridged
I'll look forward to any insights as this has been a multi-hour challenge so far. Thanks a ton.

i see you have both in the same subnet, do a reset and follow the wiki for a repeater bridge config:
