The WRT1900ACS V2 does not have any build limitations on it like the V1 & 31924.

The most recent build (at the time of this post) seems to have a few issues, but the December 14, 2017 build got good reviews:

The wrt1900ac v1 does not run well with any kernel higher then 4.4. That is the build limitation talked about. The newer dd-wrt builds have kernel 4.9 or higher. As stated, the wrt1900ac v2 does not have these limitations.

is there any possibility someone could assist me with some firmware upgrade information so that i can use my iPhone XS connected to a wrt1900ac v1 (via USB) in tethering mode so that all my devices at home can share the internet via the linksys router

Finally worked it all out...

had to install older firmware versions before I could install the latest firmware from DD-WRT

Router is working perfectly fine now & iPhone tethering AOK with iPhone XS iOS 12.4
