Will DD-WRT ever support more netgear routers, I have a Netgear WPN824 v2.0. I would like to be using this router with DD-WRT because of it's wide area coverage on wireless......Is there any plans for this router in the future?

Confused

I too have the same router, and would LOVE to have to use this software!

Thanks... Wink

WPN 824V2 has 2MB flash, which means that it's quite hard to compile anything sensible into that. Besides it lives on VxWorks, meaning even more problems with installation. I would say that there won't be a DD-WRT for this particular device, however if somebody is really good with compiling custom versions of ddwrt, i'd be glad to test it out on my spare 824V2 box.

I was also trying to find out if this router was compatible with DD-WRT. Too Bad. Do either of you that have this router have trouble with range? I don't live in a large house but when at the other end of the house I always get a really poor signal. Was hoping DD-WRt would have been able to help with this. Do you have any recommended solutions or ideas? That's besides moving closer to the router Wink

Interesting (from open-wrt):

Quote:
I updated the Netgear table of hardware. Putting OpenWrt on devices with 2MB of flash requires stripping a lot of functionality and typically does not result in a usable device as a net result. You would not be able to install any usable packages, and likely will not be able to make any modifications to settings once installed. Since this device uses an atheros wireless chipset you would need madwifi and hostapd-mini, which are (relatively speaking) massive. The only feasible way I could see this working is by building a minimal userspace that uses an NFS root, or some other form of remote storage.

2MB simply isn't enough space.

I found this instruction for WNDR3700 for WPN824 i think - this is same...

======================================== WNDR3700 Build Instructions

Version: 1.0 Date : 2009 Jul 28 ========================================

Note: 1) This package has been built successfully on ubuntu 8.10.

2) Compiling this package on platforms other than ubuntu 8.10

may have unexpected results.

=================== Build code ===================

1. Download "WNDR3700_V1.0.4.31_gpl_src.zip".

2. Run the following commands to extract GPL code:

unzip WNDR3700_V1.0.4.31_gpl_src.zip rm -f WNDR3700_V1.0.4.31_gpl_src.zip

3. Run the following commands to build image

cd WNDR3700-V1.0.4.31_gpl_src ./build.sh

5. The final image is

"bin/WNDR3700-V1.0.4.31.img".

I'm trying to get that .img file on my WPN824v1 router but I keep getting "Firmware upgrade failed. Please check your file".

I have no experience doing builds or anything to go in and change things, nor do I have the resources to do so.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your work on this also, I've had this router just sitting my closet for awhile because in my opinion it's a piece of junk. I took it out yesterday and figured I'd see if any 3rd party firmware has been updated for it.

Appreciate any help you can give.
