Hello,

I've tried the 3020FW on the 7210...works great, so far.

Did I understand correctly:
The internal antenna is not activating using the 3020 FW?
(This would explain the poor radiation...)

What can be done to activate the internal antenna?

THX,
Leo

gpio 28 enables amplifier.

echo 28 > /sys/class/gpio/export
echo "out" > /sys/class/gpio/gpio28/direction
echo 1 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio28/value

But, how to implement this GPIO information?

Imre

I want to do some research on the disabled channel 14, wich is not legal here in Europe, but using a dummyload, right?

I ran into the same issue's

1. Changed the 7210 firmware with 3020FW (With ease)
2. Discovered the antenna switch problem.
3. Purchased a 'super channel' licence (It won't work)

So! The best way was to revert to the original firmware, as mentioned above the version information prohebits that.

1. Did webrevert 3020, that worked! When choosing 'Japan' it showed the wanted channel 14. Hence, it will NOT BROADCAST on that channel.
2. So, still wanted to revert to the original firmware.

Yes!!finally i can revert to stock Laughing

Web revert with mr3020nv1_webrevert.bin

Trim the first 0x20200 bytes of wa7210nv2_en_3_16_5_up_boot(130320)

Edit 0x40 0x43 0x44 0x47 to 30200001 & 00000001 with the software of reply 7

https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=36596

Upgrade by tp link interface and back to stock again

I had i hard time understanding this, so sharing the solution.

------------------------
Trimming the first 0x20200 byte; It sounds wierd; delete the bytes until address 0X20200 !

(I used Hex editor Neo, google it: it's free)

Done that, the first bytes looked just like the other dd wrt bin's. That made me confident to go further starting that chinese programm.

In there we expect te type and version info, you see only zero's. Just type in there the fake type.

30200001 & 00000001

Tick the right ??? button and it's done.

(grinzz, updating with a newer version from TP-LINK will ask some attention now)

Imre

(Hey, you supernerts from DD-WRT, this is a challange)

Gpio 28 enables low noise amplifier. High power amplifier is always enabled, but cant change from external antenna to horizontal or vertical. Not with gpios.
You could resolder antenna Rolling Eyes

With resoldered antenna works awesome! but you loose external antenna, and cant select antenna, unless you use original tplink firmware, or you just could attach an external antenna.I prefer resoldering than using original firmware. The hardware is good, but the router firmware is the worser that i´ve ever used.

My problem is that the connection of my tl-wa7210n is not stable (tried both in ap, which ap router, which range-extender) so I'm trying to change the firmware to see if things improve. I've also tried to update the stock firmware but nothing has changed.

I have read the whole thread because I'm interested in trying the dd-wrt firmware.
Unfortunately I have not figured out how and what firmware to install?
Can you explain step by step how to install this open firmware, and maybe attach the file to download?

Thank you in advance, hello to everyone!

You did not read it all.
If you install it, there is no antenna, you have to resolder one, file is in post 4 page 1, you need to be logged to see it.

Hi guys. I have upgraded my 7210n with the firmware you supplied just for the fun of - it it was useless for my because of the instability and i had to replaced it.
Now I came upon a problem it broadcasts but it has a very poor reception even with the external antenna is there a way to do something? I just want to experiment on it no problem at all if I have to solder something or even if I brick it.

I´m using TP-Link TL-MR3020 openwrt firmware(openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3020-v1-squashfs-factory.bin) with this following startup settings:
echo 28 > /sys/class/gpio/export
echo "out" > /sys/class/gpio/gpio28/direction
echo 1 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio28/value

Also i´ve resoldered vertical antenna to external. Works very good. Original firmware always broadcasts, no matter the settings you have.

You need a short wifi coaxial cable.

For those who want do dig in further:

The antenna's are NOT switched by GPIO's. Following the PCB stripes it seems that two signals can come from the AR9331 chip.

Reading this :

http://www.eeboard.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2013/08/AR9331.pdf

Confirm's it, the different antenna modes are switched by the chip itself by setting certain bits in certain words.

Doing a bit naughty, and I came up with this string found in ath_dev.ko

ath_set_tx_antenna_select

Hope this helps.

Edit: As we can see in the nice picture above: The signal is devided by the S1, s2 and S3, wich are (I presume) switches.

The datasheet states about "External Switch Control" pins.

ANTA B52 O
ANTB A59 O
ANTC A60 O
ANTD B53 O

The pinout here http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr703n/ar9331_pinout shows that these pins are unused in TL-WR703N and TL-MR3020

The TL-WA7210n uses both antenna inputs and outputs, but also all 4 external Switch Contol Pins.

Lets follow the PCB
