OK here is my network setup.
modem -> main non DDWRT router -> DDWRT Router

Router 1 ip - 192.168.1.1
router 2 ip - 192.168.1.254

Router 2 WAN = Disabled
Router 2 WAN PORT = LAN

Is it possible to setup OPENVPN on my DDWRT router and remain in same subnet as router 1 so i can share files between networks and have my DDWRT router on an OPENVPN for any devices connected to it.

You have to forward port 1194 on the main router to the second router.

Thank you. i have 2 routers because of distance between the 2. I wouldn't mind 2 separate networks but network 2(DDWRT router) needs to share files and communicate between router 1(Netgear router) and i have not been successful on getting my ddwrt communicate with my primary router so that i can access resources from the routers 1 network but i would like router 2(DDWRT) to be behind the OpenVPN.

Side Question. Could I add a 3rd router to the equation. like this
Modem
Router1(DDWRT) with Open VPN (192.168.1.1)
Router 2(Netgear) Connect to Router 1(192.168.2.1)
Router 3(DDWRT) connected to Router 2 (192.168.2.254)

So that all routers can access the open vpn and router 2 and 3 can communicate with each other as well? and then all devices can use the OpenVPN

Ok let me clarify. there are 3 homes on the property. all with separate wireless networks. With hard line runs between the houses. we like to share the 1 internet connection. with separate wifi names and ext. but router 1 has a hard drive to the router using DLNA on it that we share videos pictures, music and backups across the whole network. but housing needs its own access points for some of the personal stuff to each out.

There is roughly 10-15 devices on each router.

Its not a apartment complex or anything just all the family on 1 property.

About 120 feet between house 1 and 2
House 3 is not a big issue as there is no need for a router at house 3

House 1 has to have wifi, house 2 has to have wifi and 5 ports + 4port switch to accommodate the hardline devices.

Ok this is my problem.
Router 1 = Netgear (Unable to configure it to have OPENVPN
Router 2 = Has DDWRT and want it to run OpenVPN

Also Router 1 has to be the main router unable to switch them around.

Router 1 and router 2 must talk to each other therefor they have to be on the same Subnet

Router 2 has its own network info (SSID and Ext)

router 1 is hardwired to router 2

Honestly i dont care how they are configured as long as devices on router 2 can communicate with devices on router 1 and router to to have openvpn but not router 1.
