installed the posted firmware on my ac68u from the asus web installer (did 30/30/30 reset before and after install) it worked fine. dd-wrt doesn't work with firefox (which suprised me initially but then I read the guide) but worked for chromium for me (didn't have IE available on Linux).
looking forward for the official release! thanks for the interim release; i was annoyed by the lack of hostname resolving in the stock firmware

Nope, straight up web flash. About to test this sucker now.
Quick test notes with 3 wired & 9 wireless clients:
- 5 GHz LED does not work (network works fine)
- CPU temperature varies between 76C & 78C, not sure if this is normal [CPU 77.5 °C / WL0 51.00 °C / WL1 50.50 °C]
- 'Site Survey' does not work (empty after repeated refreshes)

there is already a fw available for the ac56. but yes, this firmware is compatible with the ac56 as well, you just cannot install it from the asus webgui. but if dd-wrt is already installed it will be accepted and it will also work without issues. the firmware detects the device automaticly. so in fact this image will run on alot existing BCM4708 based devices
I thought this one has a BCM4709? or do you mean that this firmware will work with BCM4708 and BCM4709?
there is no difference between bcm4709 and bcm4708. except for the clock speed. it will run on both in the same way. but the ac68 seems to have a bcm4708 since its clocked to 800 mhz _________________ "So you tried to use the computer and it started smoking? i know that the 5 ghz led is not working on the old pcb revisions, but it works on the rev 1.68 pcb's. i gave asus already the info about it, but asus doesnt know yet what the reason is
cpu temperature is informational only. if i get more reports about temperatures, i will remove that feature. dd-wrt does not overheat any cpu or does not decrease the heat in any way. its as it is and this temperature is normal. older pcb's might have a higher temperature since they have smaller heatsinks
and site survey works as expected. i dont know what you mean with multiple refreshes. i just press site survey and it shows all networks surounding me. consider that the asus has a build in country code setting
check it by nvram get regulation_domain and nvram get regulation_domain_5G
if you dont like the settings you can change them to the following values (a reboot is required)
US,Q2,EU,TW,CN
dont forget to commit the values before reboot _________________ "So you tried to use the computer and it started smoking? Sounds like a Mac to me.." - Louis Rossmann https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL_5YDRWqGE&t=60s
I got curious and I just checked this myself, and from the 5 active routers I currently have that's running dd-wrt only one have those two "regulation_domain" variables set. And all the routers are running a recent version of dd-wrt.
I'm actually going to best buy right now to buy this router. This may be a dumb question but I'm new to this. Is it going to support or does it already support VPN?

Yes: PPTP Client/Server & OpenVPN Client/Server. Passthrough for clients connecting to external VPNs. _________________ Asus RT-AC68U [build: K3.x 23185M Kong AC-ARM] & Cisco E3000 [build: K2.6 23040 mega Fractal]
Great just walked through the door with it. Got it from best buy and its the RT-AC68R. I figured the R was there just because it was sold in a retail store. Would I be correct in assuming it is the same router as the U?
I've tried to decipher the peacock thread and have perused other threads on how to flash. Basically, I just flash this through ASUS flash tool correct? As indicated from post 7 on page 1. Do I need to do hard resets or the 30-30-30 when installing DD WRT for the first time on this router? Couldn't find a specific walk through for this exact router. I'm not asking for you to explain in detail here but pointing me to the correct page would be great.
