Hello guys.

First of im new to dd-wrt and this forum. I have a new huawei 3g modem labeled 173s-2 which didn't connect out of the box with my also new buffalo WZR-HP-g300nh (r16994). I put the huawei in modem mode with the AT^U2DIAG=0 command but the software still didn't recognize it.

dmesg output:
Code:
<6>[18954.150000] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ar71xx-ehci and address 3
<6>[18954.640000] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=12d1, idProduct=1c05
<6>[18954.650000] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=1, SerialNumber=0
<6>[18954.660000] usb 1-1: Product: HUAWEI Mobile
<6>[18954.660000] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: HUAWEI
<4>[18954.660000] usb 1-1: no configuration chosen from 1 choice

i figured out it didn't "enable" the serial ports.
So i found out on ubuntu forums that there was a change in power output on kernels 2.6.16 and later. the solution to this was the following command:
Code:
echo -n 1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/bConfigurationValue

after alot of testing i finally got the modem to work with the following commands
Code:

echo "12d1 1c05" >/sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id
echo -n 1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/bConfigurationValue

dmesg output:
Code:
<6>[   69.080000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
<6>[   69.090000] option 1-1:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[   69.100000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
<6>[   69.100000] option 1-1:1.2: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[   69.110000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB2

So now the modem works if i run the commands after i plug the modem in. Now if anyone can tell me how to automate this and put it in a script or something id really appreciate it.

There's a few ways to do this. The easy one is adding this code at Administration>Commands. You can paste it in the box and click on "Save Startup".

Code:
sleep 5
echo "12d1 1c05" >/sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id
echo -n 1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/bConfigurationValue

*I choose 5 seconds at first line because my router have a slower boot, but you can try with less time or without the line indeed.

Of course i did first. I tried every version i could, but the problem remained in every one. This is the only working solution for me.

That id has been supported in the option driver since many month back and has been confirmed working.
It somehow indicates that you have tried really old builds..

Hi, i'm sorry, but nothing works for me except xrand tip.

I have a Huawei E173-s1 (not s2 like xrand) and a TP-LINK WR1043ND.

According to cat /proc/bus/usb/devices:

Code:
P:  Vendor=12d1 ProdID=1c05 Rev= 1.02
S:  Manufacturer=HUAWEI
S:  Product=HUAWEI Mobile

This is what i did right now:

1º- 30/30/30
2º- Upgrade to 19519
3º- 30/30/30
4º- Verify USB service is on
5º- Set WAN Conection

Code:

Connection type: 3G/UMTS/4G/LTE
User name: in blank
Password: in blank
Dial String: *99#
APN: gprs-service.com
PIN: XXXX
Connection type: Auto 3G/2G
Force reconect: Disable

6º- Plug my HUAWEI
7º- dmesg
Code:
<6>[   53.370000] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using ar71xx-ehci

There's nothing more in dmesg, i swear.

8º- I do what xrand says.
Code:
echo "12d1 1c05" >/sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id
echo -n 1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/bConfigurationValue

9º - dmesg again
Code:
<6>[   53.370000] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using ar71xx-ehci
<6>[  115.590000] option 1-1:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  115.600000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
<6>[  115.610000] option 1-1:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  115.610000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
<6>[  115.620000] option 1-1:1.2: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  115.630000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB2
<3>[  128.160000] option: option_instat_callback: error -143
<6>[  128.170000] option1 ttyUSB0: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
<6>[  128.180000] option 1-1:1.0: device disconnected
<6>[  128.180000] option1 ttyUSB1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1
<6>[  128.190000] option 1-1:1.1: device disconnected
<6>[  128.200000] option1 ttyUSB2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected from ttyUSB2
<6>[  128.200000] option 1-1:1.2: device disconnected
<6>[  128.230000] option 1-1:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  128.230000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
<6>[  128.240000] option 1-1:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  128.250000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
<6>[  128.250000] option 1-1:1.2: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  128.260000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB2

And then every thinks works like a charm.

I think i'm doing well. Does anybody notice anything wrong?

Thanks!

EDIT

Ok, i notice also works writing just

Code:
echo "12d1 1c05" >/sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id

and then, dmesg doesn't dump any error

Code:
<6>[   88.690000] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using ar71xx-ehci
<6>[  389.810000] option 1-1:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  389.810000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
<6>[  389.820000] option 1-1:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  389.830000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
<6>[  389.830000] option 1-1:1.2: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
<6>[  389.840000] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB2

Thank you for this thread. For my USB 3G Modem, I had to replace vendor and product ids by correct ones, but after that, worked at last. Very Happy
