As the GUI for the "switch config" tab seems to now work well for many dd-wrt units. I was wondering if there is anyone working on overhauling it for the r9000. If I had any confidence in my programming skills I'd give it a try but my fairly limited c++ skills are not up to the task.

Hi there...
R9000 has a quite of a complex switch (in fact double switch and cpu ports) to handle...so, to make it work via GUI is a big challenge, as it will consist totally different set of commands...
However you can use the switch segmentation via swconfig commands via startup script..I'm using its x2 LAN ports as an isolated VLAN's..
There was a nice guide made by one of our forum members...if you cannot find it give us a call...i can share my commands set up if so... _________________ Atheros

It would indeed be a welcome feature!! _________________ Netgear R7800 PPPoE Main Router

I would really appreciate either a link to the guide or the commands you used. I've been fighting with this for 20+ hours to no avail.
Thanks in advance.
yep guide is very useful, if you get lost i can share my swconfig for x2 VLAN's on two separate LAN ports.(you also need to add x2 DHCPd and add those 2 VLAN's to separate bridges ((my config))
i never bothered to make more than 2 as i dont need more than 2 _________________ Atheros

I've been looking for the guide but I haven't found it.
I've hopped on the R9000 and poked around a bit I don't have a lot of experience with vlans from the cli (or vlans in general lol). I was able to get up and running with a vlan providing dhcp to the wan port then the R9000 lan providing dhcp to the connected wifi devices but I'd like to clean up the chain with the R9000 just active as an AP rather than providing its own dhcp.
I found both the internal switches and their associated ports via cli but I'm nervous to poke at them because I don't know which is the sfp port vs the cpu port. The final deployment will be 2 tagged vlans from pfsense run through a managed switch to the R9000. The pfsense box will be providing dhcp so no need to setup the dhcp servers on the R9000. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Oh man this is so helpful. Understanding the underlying mechanism of the internal switches makes all the difference. Do you happen to know what number switch port corresponds to the SFP+ port (eth0)?
The SFP port is not connected to the switch at all but directly to the CPU
Sorry. I did not realize it was mentioned earlier. So CLI of 'Switch X port Y' is not needed.
As a result, you can simply configure SFP+ port (to another device downstream), using DDWRT GUI on |Setup|Networking| pages.
As a matter of fact, I am looking forward to set up my planned downlink to another router, MikroTik RB5009, once the necessary gears (2x SFP+ SR 850nm Multimode Transceivers) arrive.
1. MikroTik RB5009UG+S+IN (no PoE version);
2. FLYPRO LC to LC, Multimode Fiber Optic Patch Cable, and
3. 2x used Finisar FTLX8571D3BCL 10GbE 850nm SR multimode SFP+ Transceiver
finally arrived today.
Plug the dual Fiber Patch Cable in. One end to R9000 (gateway router) and the other to RB5009. And voila, RB5009 is connected to R9000 in its own VLAN. Net traffic starts flowing through from R9000 to RB5009 to my network.
Still monitoring the generated heat from SFP+ which I don't believe to be an issue having followed closely a thread on HEAT from Netgear R9000 SFP+ on DDWRT forum.
