To answer my own question, PPTP works fine on the latest 27147 build. Slow yes (150 kB/sec average on a 100 mbit fibre connection).

within a few days of use I experienced the router (internet browsing) is slower than 24160
(PPPOE WAN)
does anyone have other experience?

You mean 27147 (K3.10) is slower than 24160 (K3.5) ?
How did you test it ? You should compare with speedtest.net and give some definitive answer. Your affirmation is quite vague...

I was wondering if someone could tell me what is the latest stable DD-WRT that can be used for WNR2000v3. Please include any special instructions.

Hello everyone. I'm hoping somebody can help me with a peculiar problem. I am flashing a WNR2000v3 router with the latest stable DD-WRT. Everything goes perfectly UNTIL I reach the second stage flash of the "wnr2000v3-webflash.bin" file. I load it up into the Firmware section exactly as stated in the flash guide and nothing happens. It spins and spins and spins and spins and eventually errors out with "flashing failed". I do the 30/30/30 ... I ping the router before tftp ... it's not a communication issue. The third stage flash of the above said file simply doesn't start up ... load ... flash or whatever. I can't complete the final stage of setting up / flashing the DD-WRT firmware because of this issue. HELP! I appreciate any / all input or ideas. Very Happy

WNR2000v3 is special... It only allows to flash builds of max size 3648 KB.

The factory-to-ddwrt file for WNR2000v3 is usually smaller than the corresponding ddwrt-to-ddwrt webflash file, so it fits within 3648 KB.
However, the webflash file is very often larger than 3648 KB, that's why it won't flash.

Here are the last few builds with webflash < 3648 KB and no major bugs:
27506
28444
28484

Ok, so I tried to flash DD-WRT onto my v3 with the method described above.

After doing the first file (my factory firmware was v1.1.58 so it didn't need to change), I tried to do the .bin.

The first time after a few seconds the page went to "The Connection was Reset" page. 30/30/30 then a powercycle later I tried again. I looked away and when I came back (seems like less than 300 seconds), it was on one of the DD-WRT main pages (NOT the password page).

Anyway, I checked it out and under Wireless there is no option for "Repeater." Considering this was the whole purpose for the router, I figured I should flash the original firmware back onto it and return it. (I'm guessing repeater isn't an option because of lack of development demand for the router).

Anyway, whenever I try to flash any other firmware onto it via the DD-WRT page I get either "Upgrade Failed" message almost immediately or a "Connection was Reset" message.

If I 30/30/30 it and leave it in recovery mode I can use TFTP to put the stock firmware on it... or so I think. I've tried it twice now and despite it reporting a successful completion, 192.168.1.1 leads back to the DD-WRT page.

WTF :/

EDIT: Here's what the TFTP stuff looks like

Code:

C:\ddwrt>tftp -i 192.168.1.1 PUT wnr2000v3-V1.0.1.26.img

WinAgents TFTP Client version 2.0b Copyright (c) 2004-2011 by Tandem Systems, Ltd.
http://www.winagents.com - Software for network administrators

Transfering file wnr2000v3-V1.0.1.26.img to server in octet mode...
Transferring data from 192.168.1.1...
File wnr2000v3-V1.0.1.26.img was transferred successfully.
3211461 bytes transferred for 3 seconds, 0 bytes/second

Note that after doing that I still have the DD-WRT login interface instead of the Netgear firmware interface.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem ???

I tried to update to 30082, but it seems the file size is just over the 3648k limitation of the partitioned nvram. I have successfully updated this router to 29837, which is the last version that fits under that 3648k file size limitation. Initial basic testing is functional.

I assume that continued future versions will be slightly larger than 3648k, so this is likely the last version to be available for this model router, unless the mods drops it to one of the smaller versions of dd-wrt in order to continue development for it...

hey, thanks for the ticket update KrypteX. Unfortunately, somewhere in the repeated 30/30/30 resets, I have bricked my unit. I'm attempting to recover it now and hope to get it operational again. It was working, but now not so much.

*update*

Ok, I got it unbricked. Sent stock Netgear image 1.1.2.2 (official wiki recommended stock firmware to upgrade from is 1.0.1.26) to unit via tftp, then loaded the factory_NA image, then upgraded to 29837 again. So, it's working now.

Hi there, this may be an obvious question, but I want to double check before I assume anything.

I don't need most of the dd-wrt functionality. Can I simply install the initial factory image and not do the second step? Will that give me the updated drivers, kernel, etc. without having to worry about the size limit?

Thanks!

Thanks man!
29837 works great!
I have a wnr2000v3, and the 18777 suggested in the wiki would have a bug on the VAP. the client or client bridge mode would work, but when vap turns on, the client radio would be off. I tried a night and didn't have a clue how did it happened.

but 29837 works perfect! with both ath 0 and ath0.1 radio on!

(too bad ath doesn't have the repeater mode LOL)

anyway thank you so much!
