Thank you KrypteX.!

I successfully flashed DD-WRT on TP-LINK "TL-WA830RE 300Mbps Wireless N Range Extender".

Steps I used:
    1. hard reset
    2. connect pc and TL-WA830RE with LAN cable
    3. open TL-WA830RE's web gui -> "firmware upgrade", and upgrade using factory-to-ddwrt_28211_WA830REv2.bin
    4. wait 2 minutes after it says "upgrade finished"
    5. hard reset again
    6. power it off, unplug LAN cable, then on
    7. "dd-wrt" wifi network came visible, then I connected to it and configured Access Point mode
Now, my system says it is:
Router Model : TP-Link TL-WA901ND v3
Firmware Version : DD-WRT v3.0-r28211 (11/16/15)
i am going to experiment and experience if this
DD-WRT will help me solve this piece of junk that comes installed with TL-WA830RE !

If this build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-27506 webflash build for TL-WR841ND v8.

Please only flash this build if you know how to unbrick it.

Hi,
I have 830RE with
HW: WA830RE v2 00000000
FW: 3.14.8 Build 140901 Rel.58502n

I want to upload DD-WRT over GUI, but I received error 18005. I tried to flash with several modified build of 841NDv8 (and also with 901ND), but no success. Every time erroe 18005. Stock TP-Link FW was reflashed without problem.
Please help.

From factory firmware flash this modified build (based on WA901NDv3, I've just updated it)

Hi, thanks for the effort you guys put in, it changed my view of my hardware. I found that the speed on certain apps, on my SGTabE and SGNote 4, like Facebook and Youtube are extremely slow initially, then later the whole connection started to drag. I used the settings that came with the 27506 build.

I am hoping that an upgraded version, like 28647 would sort those bugs out. If there is a newer stable version, please let me know how to upgrade from the current version, which is Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r27506 (07/09/15). I hope this is right. The System Information screen says that I have TP-Link TL-WR841ND v8. Is this correct?

As you can hear, I am very new to all this, but found it liberating to break free from the constraints set by the man.

Am I missing a step? I was tired of my WA830REv2 dropping internet irregularly so I flashed DD-WRT this morning.

Followed these instructions to the letter and it's not behaving. As soon as I apply settings the signal just vanishes and I'm left with just the main router on 1 bar, and have to reset and start again. Is there anything obviously wrong here?

Thanks to everyone here for your work you put into this, by the way!

Hi,
I currently have WR841NDv8 firmware installed on my WA830REv2. A while ago i asked if anywone got WPA2 working on it, because i am only able to get WPA. I got no answer yet. The device should support WPA2 though. Did anywone get WPA2 working on WA901ND v3 firmware?
Thanks!

I managed to find this thread a long time ago and flashed r22118.
Now I'm trying to install new versions of DD-WRT and nothing happens, also tried openwrt and gargoyle and even flashing factory firmware.
I try to flash the firmware through the dd-wrt web interface.
I have an WA830REv2.
Basically, I upload the binary and press upgrade, after a while dd-wrt comes up again with the same firmware version (r22118).
I've tried hard resetting (30-30-30) and flashing.

Any suggestions as what to try next?

Aaah, I just needed to learn more about upgrading. This helped me:

Reset, then update to 28211 for WR841NDv8 ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/11-16-2015-r28211/tplink_tl-wr841ndv8/ then again reset and manual setup.

If still not good, update to 28211 for WA901NDv3 ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/11-16-2015-r28211/tplink_tl-wa901ndv3/

just to let you know, my TL-WA830RE now runs on DD-WRT v3.0-r32868 std (07/27/17), downloaded from FTP in TL-WA901ND v3 folder, latest build.

allthough i set to not, it did reset to factory default after the upgrade, so had to setup it all again.
