Ok, just tested the nv64k bin and it does not work just what I expected. I used the bin, removed the nv64k header added the correct header for the R6300 and flashed it via tftpd the output is:

Hangs here

I had the same problem before I used netgears binary lzma tool to create the image. I just saw that Openwrt folks had the same problem:

Sent Patches along with additional info to BS

I tried numerous times, with multiple browsers, to upload the mega-nv64k.bin to my AC66U, upgrading from 21592. Each time the GUI resets very shortly after I click upgrade. Anyone else see this or am i totally missing something.

no need for nv64k file since you have already 3.x firmware.

Does that mean that Dark_Shadow simply needs to apply the dd-wrt.v24-21605_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin file since he previously was at 21592 on his AC66U?

jup, since new FW provide always 64k. 64 in naming is only for K2.6 Upgrade, which expects it. so far i understood BrainSlayers comment.

I just tested the Negear WNR3500L V1.

First try failed, then I flashed again an older mini build through tftpd, tried again and it worked this time. Not sure what happened at the first try did not have serial attached at that time.

Nice -> wireless chip temp also shown on these old units (WL0 46.74 °C)

Update:

I tried to reproduce my flashing problem from old K26 build to the new K3 build and did not have a problem again. So it was just a bad try.

this makes the router (AC66U) unresponsive and only recovery is restore utility.

you cannot flash it to AC66 routers. AC66 is nandflash. for the AC66 there is a special build like fir D1800H

to clarify. only spi/nor flash devices will boot this image here. for the AC66, D1800H etc. there is a separate thread. dont even try to boot it, it wont work. and at least this image has no 802.11ac support. this has been stripped out. its only made for 802.11n routers

Got it, I will try to test on other K2.6 SPI flash devices I have.

maybe this thread should be made sticky for a while and a comment in first post about newest units on market that wont work in any case with that builds here ?

I agree, I should have known that the AC66U and D1800H are already K3.x routers, but better someone with the tools and knowledge to do so that n00bs don't mess anything up. This thread is for upgrading only K2.6 supported routers to K3.x

I'll probably end up eating my words but I did a "dirty" flash to my E4200 (NV60 build from here obviously) and it works.

Seems as though HT40 isn't enabled though on 5Ghz as i'm locked to 216.5Mbps which is 3x3x20mhz instead of 450Mpbs (3x3x40Mhz).

I'm gonna do a full wipe and see if it still only connects at the slower speeds then decide if I should keep it or not Razz

Supposing a WRT310N v1 had a 8MB flashchip, would this image work?

I'm asking because I have one with a modded 8MB flashchip but it gives about the same serial output as Kong's
