TL-WA850RE is V1.20 (bought on AMAZON)
value 0x40-0x43 = 08500001
value 0x44-0x47 = 00000002″ => 2, this is the correct value
Alright, it seems you have a WA850REv1 rev2 (HWREV=2). The build that I posted above is only good for WA850REv1 rev1 (HWREV=1). So, here you go:
I've modified the header of the DD-WRT 27506 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for TL-WR841ND v8, so it will flash on a TL-WA850RE v1 rev2 running stock TP-Link firmware.
If the attached build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-27506 webflash build for TL-WR841ND v8.
Disclaimer: I haven't tested the attached builds myself, so I'm not responsible in any way if you brick your router.
Please only flash these builds if you know how to unbrick it.
Note: You must be logged in to be able to download the attachment.
Thanks a lot !
Now that I'm running Gargoyle, not sure how to proceed, since I should be using
"Firmware should be a sysupgrade.bin file"
Should I try and get it back to stock first ?

Yes, it's best to first TFTP back to stock. Be careful not to brick it. _________________ THERE ARE NO STRANGERS HERE; ONLY FRIENDS YOU HAVEN'T YET MET.

I've modified the header of the DD-WRT 28072 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for TL-WA901ND v3, so it will flash on a TL-WA850RE v1 running stock TP-Link firmware.
If the attached build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-28072 webflash build for TL-WA901ND v3.
Note: The 1st file is for WA850RE v1.0
The 2nd file is for WA850RE v1.2x HWREV=1
The 3rd file is for WA850RE v1.2x HWREV=2
If you have a v1.2x unit, try the 2nd file. If you get Error 18005, try the 3rd file.

I just bought one of these little extenders on Amazon but got sent the hardware version 2-EU, so I'm curious if anything can be tried to port dd-wrt on it.
I didn't try to open it as I would probably break it horribly, but from the GPL code on the tp-link web site it looks like it's using the AP143 Atheros reference platform (850rev2_gpl_code\build\Makefile).
There's 4MB of flash on board (layout seems detailed in 850rev2_gpl_code\images\850rev2\FlashMaker\850rev2_eu\ptn-4M.conf)
I'd like to install dd-wrt on it to place the extended network in a different subnet, while forwarding all traffic to the main network. Would this be possible or there's some hardware limitation?
Can you provide a bootlog (by running dmesg from SSH) of your WA850RE v2 ? If it's QCA9531/QCA9533 CPU, I can make a modified build... _________________ THERE ARE NO STRANGERS HERE; ONLY FRIENDS YOU HAVEN'T YET MET.

I will check for a listening telnet/SSH daemon as soon as I get home. If you know about any technique to enable it or enter some kind of recovery console let me know.
By looking at 850rev2_gpl_code\build\products_config\850rev2\kernel.config, I see a couple of promising lines:
And, maybe, someone can help me in one more question?
I decided to use DD-WRT, because from some moment in time my range extender just stopped working with my main router.
Unfortunately, I've got no password from main router, so I am trying to fix it from different side (range extender).
I think it's kinda strange situation, because the same TL-WA850RE (my neighbour's) can connect to main router, no problems. And my range extender can connect to any wi-fi router, just can not connect to that one that I need =(
I was thinking about MAC-filtering on main router, but nobody touched it for long time, so nothing changed...
I have this kind of log all the time:
3 1st day 00:00:47 WIRELESS ERROR Association failed, reason: association timed out
2 1st day 00:00:20 WIRELESS ERROR Association failed, reason: scanning failed
1 1st day 00:00:06 OTHER INFO System started
