I have a TP-Link WDR3600 router with DD-WRT installed (v24 PreSP2 Build 21061) and TP-Link WA850RE v1.24 EU as a repeater with the latest stock firmware (Firmware Version: 3.14.8 Build 140826 Rel.63335n Hardware Version: WA850RE v1.2)
to extend the wireless signal in my home.
When I am using WiFi in an area where I am getting the signal from the repeater I am facing a lot of dropouts. So, I would like to install DD-WRT on the WA850RE and use it as a repeater. I've been doing some reading and there doesn't seem to be any clear answer if this is possible.
Checking the router database list, I can see there is no official support for WA850RE. Any ideas on what I can try/do?

You can not use it as a "real" repeater !!!
Don't know what you want to accomplish, in Atheros chipset you won't see Repeater that is for Broadcom, Client Bridge Routed is Repeater mode in Atheros using this Tuto http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeater_Bridge browse down to Qualcomm Atheros and on second line where it reads Default GW Mode: Auto (DHCP) don't use Auto use Manual like this
edit]Setup
Follow the instructions above from Broadcom except:
6. Open the Wireless -> Basic Settings tab
Physical Interface Section
Wireless Mode : Client Bridge (routed)
Default Gateway Mode : Manual
Gateway : Point to Gateway for network, usually IP of primary router
Wireless Network Mode : Must Match Primary Router
Wireless Network Name(SSID) : Must Match Primary Router exactly including exact case- Make sure you spell this correctly
Wireless Channel : Must Match Primary Router (This will disappear once you put it in RB mode, and isn't needed)
Wireless SSID Broadcast : Enable
Network Configuration : Bridged

I have a TL-WA850RE,
I would like to use the Ethernet port as input to extend and improve my wi-fi signal but kept some features of my Asus router like parental control.
If I instal the dd-wrt firmware I will be able to do it?
3. Patch factory-to-ddwrt.bin using TP路由固件头修改工具.exe
value 0x40-0x43 = 08500001
value 0x44-0x47 = 00000001
4. Flash the patched firmware via the web interface (original firmware).
5. Wait until a wifi AP named "ddwrt" appears, then connect to it. We cannot connect via Ethernet yet because the Ethernet port is assigned to WAN by DD-WRT.
6. Flash tl-wr841nd-webflash.bin
7. Wait and reconnect to the wifi AP "ddwrt".
8. On the Setup page,
set WAN Setup // WAN Connection Type // Connection Type :: Disabled
set Network Setup // WAN Port // Assign WAN Port to Switch :: Checked
Done! Now we can access the router/extender via Ethernet.
I have a new WA850RE that I would like to load DD-WRT on to use as a client bridge for our xbox 360, but am having trouble downloading the files in this link. Is there anything special I need to do to download them? Have they moved perhaps?
The FTP link in my signature for the builds is down since yesterday. Wait until it's available again. _________________ THERE ARE NO STRANGERS HERE; ONLY FRIENDS YOU HAVEN'T YET MET.

I have a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND with DD-WRT v24SP2- (03/25/13) std - build 21061.
I just bought a Extender TP-Link TL-WA850RE, it's with Stock version but I can't make this extender connect to my AP. There is any tutorial or any catch to make this work?

Hi,
I have the same question, since I want to use this repeater as a AP.
Tried the tutorial, modifying
"Patch factory-to-ddwrt.bin using TP路由固件头修改工具.exe
value 0x40-0x43 = 08500001
value 0x44-0x47 = 00000001"
When I try to upload the firmware factory-to-ddwrt.bin using the Web interface, I get the following error :
Error 18005 : wrong firmware (in french, longer)

if you had renamed the file to shorter name and no luck use WinSCP, just make sure your file is correct or you eill end up with a brick _________________ TP-Link: TL-WR741ND V4

I've modified the header of the DD-WRT 27506 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for TL-WR841ND v8, so it will flash on a TL-WA850RE v1 running stock TP-Link firmware.
If this build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-27506 webflash build for TL-WR841ND v8.
Disclaimer: I haven't tested the attached build myself, so I'm not responsible in any way if you brick your router.
Please only flash this build if you know how to unbrick it.
Note: You must be logged in to be able to download the attachment.
TL-WA850RE is V1.20 (bought on AMAZON)
in the meantime, that's what I found out testing everything (also on

“Patch gargoyle_1.6.0-ar71xx-generic-tl-wa850re-v1-squashfs-factory.bin using TP路由固件头修改工具.exe
value 0x40-0x43 = 08500001
value 0x44-0x47 = 00000002″ => 2, this is the correct value
rename the file as garg1.bin
flash it through the stock interface
It works, setup as an AP (OpenWRT) connected to the Internet trhough the Wired LAN.
-but I still can't setup my VPN-
What would now be the way to get to dd-wrt ?
