|
Hey guys,
I read through the various required threads to see if there is any guidelines on this, but didn't see anything.
From what I can tell for Cisco and other common router brands on the market using Broadcom chipsets, it appears most vendors have settled on no more than 8MB of flash. For example, the Cisco E2500. The Cisco EA-series routers, which have more but are these new "cloud" models, are still WIP for DD-WRT from my searching on the forums. Common other brands in the US (Netgear, Belkin, etc) are using either Atheros or have also limited to 8MB, or are unsupported.
For my particular deployment using DD-WRT we need OpenVPN and JFFS. We use OpenVPN for a meshed VPN between several locations, and use (a tiny amount of) JFFS to store all of the custom OpenVPN scripts for the various tunnels and server/client configurations. However, you can only find OpenVPN and JFFS in the big and mega builds. You can get one or the other in smaller/more specific builds, but not both. To be specific, I'm looking at build versions that support the E2500 and other newer routers, such as 19342 and 19519.
The trouble with only being available in the big and mega builds is that those builds are like 7.8MB and on an 8MB flash E2500 or similar, there isn't enough leftover room to create a JFFS partition. The build has JFFS support, but attempting to enable, format, and mount the partition (via GUI or Bash, using http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Jffs) fails. I verified it's due to free space by installing a smaller build with JFFS but no OpenVPN and confirming I can create a JFFS partition just fine.
Given that most of the newer supported routers are only 8MB (and most don't have USB ports to add external storage to), is there any way someone can create a build (one time, or on-going) that has OpenVPN and JFFS, with enough spare room to create the JFFS partition, and gets rid of some other features? It's tough to know what to eliminate, while I don't personally need anything but mini+openvpn+jffs, I'm not sure what other folks' needs are.
I appreciate any assistance anyone can provide. |
