I have the same problem.
After flashing vith Firmware Restoration utility or MiniWeb UI or Stock Web UI the router becomes unreachable.

It can be reached in recovery mode, but when rebooted again unreachable. Cleaning NVRAM doesn't help.

I have tried several times with several posibilities and does not work. Finally I dicede to install a mod of the original asus firmware (http://www.lostrealm.ca/tower/webfm_send/107)

then, I am using the repeater function with 2 routers instead one. (fonera + asus N66u)

I tried the following versions:
18946-mini
18946-big
18946-mega
19342-big
19342-mega
20006-mini
20006-mega

The only version I'm able to ping and access is 18946-mega. But I have a problem with it. Whenever I try to change settings or update firmware on the DD-WRT UI I get "Connection was reset" (pages apply.cgi and update.cgi)

Also I am able to successfully install tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-101-Mega-VPN-64K

ortigosano, try installing 18946-mini --> 18946-mega. Note that mini was not accessible.

I highly doubt there is enough nvram to store all the Mega settings within that 32KB nvram area.

And I don't. Mega perfectly works on RT-N16. Moreover this doesn't explain the problem with installation of mini.

As for "Connetion was reset" problem, the workaround is to use IE. DD-WRT never stops surprising me.

These are totally different routers. Their basic NVRAM usage can't be compared.

It's been posted already how you can easily run out of space if you run a DD-WRT version with too many features. OpenVPN certs for instance will never fit within only 32 KB of nvram.

If you read the wiki on the N16, people have also declared to have run out of NVRAM space on this device as well.

I am on the STD_USB_NAS build, with DHCP, DNS, and several other things disabled to try to save space, and I am still running low on NVRAM storage:
31.42 KB / 32 KB

So, good luck with the Mega build.

Disappointingly, if you bought this router with the intent on using DD-WRT you dropped 150+ for nothing, because it is not suitable to run this firmware. It works, sure, but it doesn't work efficiently, or at full capacity to handle all the options DD-WRT has.

Actually, I don't need Mega.
The problem is that I cannot install anything else:

about the RT-N16, since I own a couple, and with uPNP turned off, I have 25/32k and 27/32K available.

I don;t think it is nvram that is an issue, it;s only if you have something running that like uPNP that stores entries in that space. ttraf daemon data and port forwards also are saved there. SSH keys are stored there too i believe.

funny thing is I have a 6-7 year old buffalo whr-hp-54g that i recently switched out to wired ap duty from being a main router. probably had 7 years worth of traff data(which should be small) plus had uPNP turned on. loaded 19519 std on it which reports how much ram is used and it checked in at 31/32K! i didn;t bother clearing the nvram but deleted the uPNP entries and ttraf data and now it;s holding steady at 29/32K.

I recently cleared the nvram on an wrt54Gv6 after loading the latest micro firmware-it reports 18/32K. so maybe there is old data in there.

what we need to find out is what the rt-n66u is storing in the nvram that is causing it to be consumed or exceeded so rapidly.

Where can I get the latest test Firmware or older ones?

It's already been discussed as to what is causing the nvram to be so high. If you read through the initial N66U thread, you will see why.

As far as panik, I have the router working with dd-wrt.

How are you flashing it, and with what? What components, devices, etc? It does work, the only way it wouldn't is if you skipped over a direction part.

Hello again,

I' ve tried like this:

I loaded the mini version you posted with the router in recovery mode (pressing reset button + unplug power + plug power)
I waited 15 min
I cleaned the NVRAM with the 30/30/30 rule, in our router works with WPS button instead reset button.
I loaded the big version you posted with the same procedure as I did in the step 1 of this list.
I waited 15 min
I cleared the NVRAM as I did on the step 3 of this list.
I waited 3 minutes
I switched off the router
I switched on the router
I waited 5 minutes
the configuration of my wired network is still manual ( 192.168.1.11 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.1.1.)
I opened my browser (chrome) and typed 192.168.1.1
Result: does not work!

I guess is an error from dd-wrt, because Merlin's firmwares, tomato's and original one works without problem.

I just remembered seeing this that I also had some problems installing this, but for some reason everything went fine using IE, was using Firefox at first...
