The CFE natively supports 64KB NVRAM.

I've been reading around in regards to the RT-N66U, AC66U and Linksys routers and this whole NVRAM business. For me, it's the VPN that is important, OpenVPN to be exact as I have to VPN from work overseas to my router then VPN from my router to StrongVPN. If the Asus units are problematic with this, what would be recommended in it's place? It's the need for OpenVPN that has led me to DD-WRT in the first place.

cheers

Try shibbys latest tomato AIO, it supports 64kb NVRAM and OpenVPN.
Was running it my self a while, but due to lack of processing power I once againg configured my N66U to be an accesspoint only + an old computer with pfsense.

I'm adding OpenVPN to Asuswrt-Merlin these days, so that will provide you with an OpenVPN-capable firmware for the RT-AC66U until the day DD-WRT and/or Tomato start supporting the RT-AC66U.

Beta build is available on Github: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/downloads

For the RT-N66U, you can go with either Tomato (which has both 64K support and OpenVPN) or Asuswrt-Merlin.

Hello guys,

there was no news for quite some days... I'm looking for a new router (with DD-WRT of course), and I ran into the RT-AC66U. How things are going? Do you think this router will be supported withouth any major issue (like his older brother RT-N66U)? It's an expensive router, so I wonder if is a good shot buy it.

Hi at DD-WRT Fans,

ive got my self the AC66U and cant wait to have the Proper Firmware thats DDWRT on it. Dont need the Extension for Optware but VPN and V-Lan would be great.

Very Happy

The reason ive got my self that router is that the NVRam Nativly is set to 64 and has good power on the CPU. Smile

Right now i have a Linksys WRT-610 ver1 with K2.6 and its running like a champ... Great work guys. ^^

Now its time to move on and cant wait to hear that DD-WRT would support this new Router of mine...

Best regards and many many thanks at all

Val.

I just picked up the RT-AC66U. I already own a Buffalo WZR-D1800H.

Hopefully there will be more development on the ASUS than the Buffalo, because it's dead on the Buffalo side for DD-WRT

Hi,

does someone know if there is any further development for this router ongoing or is something blocking to get this router supported?

Donations towards getting it ported may help..

Hi! This is fair enough. I guess you mean a money donation and not a hardware one, right?

Also, if I donate via PayPal, should I write "donation towards support of RT-AC66u" or sth like that?

Thank you!
