just got this router ASUS RT-N66U
H/W ver B1 and F/W 184.108.40.206.378 on 7/19.
a couple questions here as i want to flash it to use it with DD-WRT:
1-shall i do the set up-as explained in the booklet-
the wireless set up first or not?
2-if i understood Cesthree and Kozy,
i should NOT do the firware upgrade after the wireless set up
correct or not?
3-is the method explained by Cesthree (9 sept 2014)
still the best to flash my router?
thanks for your help guys!

I'm working with a ASUS RT-N66U, Asus firmware is 220.127.116.11.382_50470-g033b865.
The DD-WRT firmware is dd-wrt.v24-37305_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin and dd-wrt.v24-37305_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega_RT-N66U.trx.
When flashing DD-WRT this message appears(see attachment), "Firmware Upgrade unsuccessful. This might result from an incorrect image or error transmission, please check the model name RT-N66U and verison of the firmware from support site and try again."
Is this something I'm doing wrong or Asus?
I knew Netgear was actively rejecting "foreign" firmwares, but I wonder if ASUS has started doing this too? _________________ Netgear R7000P on DD-WRT v3.0-r37985M kongac

You have an rt-ac66u. Don’t use the firmware for the rt-n66u.
Also, put the router into recovery mode first as the newer ASUS firmware prevent the flashing of third party firmware. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
