I converted this router that was previously running Tomato as it was starting to have issues with QoS + WiFi in the latest versions and now that the Linux 2.6 kernel has been deprecated for some time.

The printer only worked in Tomato via USB 1.1. However, I can't find a setting to turn that on.

I've tried insmod usbcore, insmod usb uhci-hcd, insmod usb ohci-hcd, but terminal complains about these .ko modules missing.

I've seen the wiki on enabling JFFS, but that seems to refer to the older Kernel 2.4 branch. I've also watched a few YouTube tutorials, and their printers are detected when typing lsusb.

Any tips?

Will this tutorial help?

OK, so I'm reading that I'll need to install the p910nd package from OpenWRT in order to get printing working according to this post: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=289242

So for this router, I'll need to enable JFFS and install the following ipkg here?

http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/brcm47xx/generic/packages/packages/p910nd_0.97-5_brcm47xx.ipk

I'm guessing that Tomato has this package installed on default? Can someone point me in the right direction?

So ipkg is not included in these ARM builds.

Does that mean I have to install optware to enable it?

Ok now I've read optware is too old and not supported on ARM routers, so entware is the solution?

At this rate, I am considering running another old AP on Tomato and just use the printer feature from there.

What Build are you using?

Have you enabled USB Printing on Services-USB tab?

Yes. USB Printer Support is on.

dmesg does not display a message about detecting a bidirectional USB printer.

I don't know if it's because I don't have entware installed or it doesn't know the printer is detected under USB 1.1.

If I didn't check the box for USB 1.1 under Tomato, the printer could not be detected.

lsusb just shows three ports and addresses with no unique names.

Is there a way to force all ports to USB 1.1?

I see when USB Printer Support is marked, /dev/ shows lp0, lp1, and lp2.

Try 29300m kong build. It is possible that usb printing is broken in k4 builds

I tried a different router E3000 running r30432 K.3.10.102, and it detects the printer.

dmesg displays a bidirectional printer detected.

Test printed a page. It works.

Maybe this is an ARM-only problem or perhaps like you said k4 only problem?

I went back to Tomato for now since I think it's ridiculous to run two devices to do one thing.

Yes but that is a K3 build. That is why I suggest 29300M kong build which is a K3 build.

I'll try it later, but that seems bad if I can't update to any newer builds if that's the last K3 build.

Well that is why these builds are beta, we as a community test them and give feedback to the devs so that these builds can be improved (we also donate so that the devs can continue their good deeds Smile )
So try that older build and report back, you can even file an official bug report at the bug tracker: http://svn.dd-wrt.com/

usb printing was problematic in a number of k4 and k3 builds. i have been using recent K4 Kong builds, including latest (30465M - 2016/08/23) successfully with usb printing.
