By the way, this is how you check temperature:
echo T=$((`wl -i eth1 phy_tempsense|awk {' print $1 '}`/2+20))

On my overclocked 400,200,100 router with a bigger radiator I get 51 degrees, while on a stock hardware router overclocked to 354,177,88 I get 52 degrees.

Would be nice have this directly in web-UI. E.g. in the right top corner.

Hello.
I have some question about this router before buy.

1.) I want use it like print server with my Canon MP550. Will everything work OK? I need it fully working (printing, scanning...)

I can confirm it works perfectly as a print server. I used for many years Asus 520 router and I read a lot of reviews confirming the same for RT N10U.

The real mystery is with the scanning. On 520 was not working (with the same multifunctional where printing was OK). And for RT N10U there is no comment yet regarding scanning. Strange total silence... Smile

I will repeat the kind request: Can anyone bring some new information regarding RT N10U scanning capabilities? On Asus site, the product feature page confirms scanning fuctionality but in the User Manual there is no word about it.

My second question refers to Output Power Adjustment. Can it be done with RT N10U?

Thank you very much for your answers.

Hi.
I use it like print server for my Canon MP550. It works, but PC cannot read data from printer (so I can't see e.g. ink state, no paper warning etc.). It's really boring, on original Asus FW it worked.

About scanning, with Canon it's possible through SANE. But it doesn't work with original scanning software.
I didn't test it yet... It's not so simple as printing...

And yes, it's possible to adjust power of wifi (up to 250mW)

I use the dd-wrt.v24-20675_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega.bin for now.

From what I've read scanning is possible with Tomato firmware and "USB bidirectional copying" active. I don't know about stock firmware or DD-WRT. You could read about scanning with RT-N16 and Tomato because it should be the same. RT-N10U is not bought by many (because of limited 150N speed and System-On-Chip architecture) but I found it to be a very good alternative.

I did the RAM upgrade on a second unit successfully. One word of advice: the solder joints are lead free, that means it's better to cut/lift the pins of the old RAM chip manually, instead of using a remove station (in my case I overcooked the PCB and the RAM chip still remained on the board, while damaging the RAM pads)

I tryed quite new version of firmware, build 21153 http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2013/04-01-2013-r21153/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-21153_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin.

I can set there 40MHz channel properlly, and it is working for some time:

Code:
root@hydra:/etc/config# wl status
SSID: "moje.cz"
Mode: Managed   RSSI: 0 dBm     noise: -88 dBm  Channel: 9
BSSID: C8:60:00:71:43:26        Capability: ESS ShortSlot
Supported Rates: [ 1(b) 2(b) 5.5(b) 6 9 11(b) 12 18 24 36 48 54 ]
802.11N Capable:
        Chanspec: 2.4GHz channel 9 40MHz (0x2e09)
        Control channel: 11
        802.11N Capabilities:
        Supported MCS : [ 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 32 ]

But after a while, AP drop down back to 20MHz channel, sometimes after minutes, sometimes after hours.

Code:
root@hydra:/etc/config# wl status
SSID: "moje.cz"
Mode: Managed   RSSI: 0 dBm     noise: -91 dBm  Channel: 11
BSSID: C8:60:00:71:43:26        Capability: ESS ShortSlot
Supported Rates: [ 1(b) 2(b) 5.5(b) 6 9 11(b) 12 18 24 36 48 54 ]
802.11N Capable:
        Chanspec: 2.4GHz channel 11 20MHz (0x2b0b)
        Control channel: 11
        802.11N Capabilities:
        Supported MCS : [ 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ]

While using 40MHz channel, download speed is between 75~80 Mbit/s, that is fantastic for that cheap machine. If anyone have a tip how to make 40MHz channel pernament, please let me know.

Hi,

Has anyone tried latests builds on rt-n10u? r22xxx or r23xxx. I have tried r21676 and seems to be working, haven't done too many tests. However with 22 or 23 versions wifi does not work, at all; it says started but it does not work and temperature does not work either, no errors displayed.
Also, is the wifi led working on rt-n10u with any version; I have not managed to make it working whatever I tried.

thanks.

I'm running 3 boxes. Two of them are running original software (first supported one):
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/08/11) big - build 16994

My personal at home is now running:
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/01/13) big - build 21153

In both cases, I have no isses(i'm using wifi N 20MHz channel, openvpn, traff daemon). In both cases, wifi led did not work Smile In new software, 40MHz channel is forking, but just for a while (see upper post).

Same problem here. Wifi doesn't work at all on none of the r23xxx and r22xxx releases. I tried r21676 also and that is the last one where wifi works on my rt-n10u.

I tried to upgrade its memory to 64Mb, I did set sdram_init from 0x0419 to 0x0c19/0x0c29/0x0113 along with (or without) manual_boot_nv=1, but it was always reporting 32Mb.

What is odd is that after setting sdram_ncdl to 0x0000, it does not get recalculated after reboot, remaining 0, therefore I believe it doesn't use these nvram settings.

I did manage to (stable) 'clkfreq' overclock it to:
354,177,88 / 373,186,93 / 400,200,100 but it gets quite hot even after radiator replacement. I would recommend 354,177,88 with stock radiator to have it running for years.

Hi base on the schematic, can anyone tell me the value of the one labeled as Q1 in the image? I can't read such complex schematic but I tried and what I got is AO664 N-Channel mosfet but I'm not sure

Hi,

Is there any free GPIO pins on RT-N10U? If no, could you help me and let me know some other router? I need a router which can control home automation via GPIO pins. It should be a router.
