Having tested a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 on a power meter:
The board flags make NO difference to TX power, at any power setting (tried at all settings from 0 to 251mw in 10mW increments).
However, I did notice something interesting which probably deserves more investigation.
Changing the TX power setting made a big difference up to about 62mw
Past 62mw, it made no real difference
Past 80mw, the TX power actually started DROPPING
200mW gives the same TX power out as 60mW
Looked at it on a spectrum analyser, and found that past around 90mW, the output starts to get quite dirty.
70mW therefore I concluded was between "last noticable change in TX power" and "TX spectrum distortion", so would give optimum power output across all batches.
Power meter was a peak holding type.
But it wasn't recently calibrated, so I can't vouch for actually HOW MUCH power came out at 70mw, as to if it was 300mw, 10mw, 70mw, or what exactly WAS coming out of the end of it when set to 70mw.
Would appreciate people's thoughts on this one, anyone got similar results or got calibrated power meters to know how much actually does come out at this 70mw "optimum"?

OK, I googled up exponentation. Eko, your math is correct. I has been 25 years and a fucking TON of intoxicants since I was a math wiz in grade school. Anyway, I am going to test tower to tower, and I do mean TEST !

Yes, the chart does include Tx setting., The problem is that the Tx amp is hardwired to the Tx circuit, therefore it cannot be disabled. The only way to disable it is to cut (literaly) the pin that powers it, and then you will have no signal at all.
This is consistent with the translation given:

Which version(s) of DD-WRT were you running when you made your measurements? Did you use v. 24 beta or compare the versions?
Edit: And did you compare with stock firmware's 25%/50%/75%/100% settings?
I see what you are saying. I had never heard of 0758 before. I think that the units were originally shipped with 1758 and the mode has been to put it at 2758...which looks marginally better than 0758. The interesting thing is that 2758, which people were hoping and speculating would increase the pre-amp significantly...doesn't.
According to this there's for example no way for the 4th flag to be 8. Only if it is a glitch and the board gracefully accepts it as the maximum (>7=7).
Those places might have another significance we do not know about.
In the table at bsr I see no 7 on second place and no 5 on third either! :roll:
Also, might it be that it is just dd-wrt that sets the flags to x758 and that this value is not right for the Buffalo pieces at all? ...wonder what the value in original firmware is... _________________ If you use DD-WRT, you HAVE to make a donation! I just tested the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 flag 0x2758 with my Praxsym VSWR tester and it this what i just got, im really excited, i havent done every test yet, im just making a fast review.
at Xmit 28 mw = 18.5 dBm
at Xmit 35 mw = 20 dBm
at Xmit 45 mw = 30.5 dBm (Almost exceed the range of my tester 1 watt)
at Xmit 50 mw = Range Exceed, it means more than 1 watts
Incredible but real in some minutes i will publish a video at youtube
If you check the output specification of the amplifier chip AWL6153 it says 31 dBm, so its really true.
P.D. If someone can send me a -20dB attenuator i could know what is the range exceed. Im using a Broadwave -10 dB to test more than 100 mw up to 1 Watt, but once the buffalo output more than 30.5 it show in the LCD screen Exceed Range.
