Hi, I bricked my wrt400 making a few noob
mistakes this time. Should have kept the
instructions in front of me because my
memory was ??.
1 did not set static IP
2 after flash did 30,30,30
3 power cycle
4 Then tried to connect with Firefox
The router boots up ok. I had turn off radio
at boot set and it now seems to work with this
flash 18687. I am using Firefox as before
but get no connection. I have pinged with
the following results hardware error,destination
host unreachable and request timed out. This is
my first Atheros unit and followed the instructions
with no problems for 2 previous flashes.
Thanks Jethroww

Hi aceror, After I realized the mistakes I made
I did set the computer to the static IP,turned off
the anti virus. Firefox will not make a connection.
When I try and ping the router I get the following
results
hardware error
destination host unreachable
and when the router is fully up and running
request timed out.
Thanks for the help.

Hi This is a question for the Moderators.
Is this advertizement/sales-pitch by
"wifi signal amplifier"
allowed when it has nothing to do with
the problem being asked for help with?

Hi The router starts up okay. the lights light up and
the power/connection(1) stay on with nothing flashing.
The wifi/above button line light up at start and then
turn off as I had the old 14929 set for but didn't work.
It seems it has taken the new flash 18687 but I
can't get a connection with Firefox. Would you say this
is then bricked? I have tried ping with no results.
After a lot of searching (my first Atheros) it looks
like the only way of de-bricking is with Serial Recovery?
I have only jtag a broadcom router this will be my first Serial Recovery attempt.
Thanks ahead for anymore info.

Hi I was able to capture PuTTY.
I have attached them(4) to help identify the problem.

I just tried loading the latest version on my 400n last night and at first i thought it bricked my device but actually it only made wired ports not work so I was able to log on with my laptop wireless and reload 18024 which works fine for what i do.

Hi,Up and running now. This is how I fixed the wrt400n.
1 removed the 3.3v connection from board
2 reversed the Tx and Rx connections
3 ctrl+C when plugging in the router(about 5 times)
4 I would get if memory serves me ar7100 so I just entered the commands after ar7100
The file I down loaded had wrt400n- in front of
openwrt-to-dd-wrt.bin Once I added it to the tftpboot line I had success. Then entered the next 2 lines.
5 waited about 10 min then entered boot and another 10min.
6 Then did a power cycle 10 min wait.
7 Success DD-WRT 16994 loaded and running as I post.
The wireless light keeps flashing. Will flash next
good posted build( hope successfully this time).
Thank you DD-WRT community for all the help.

Hi, I just flashed the WRT400n with 15962 with no problems.Upon further investigation and researching DD-WRT I believe the router was not bricked??
I had 14929 flashed and working. The only problem was setting the router to turning off the wireless with using the wireless button. I had checked the boxes to use the button and turn off wireless at start up. Months later I flashed 18024 and lost my GUI connection. So with my limited knowledge I was sure I had bricked the WRT400n. During my research in debricking the router with Serial Recovery. I think I found the actual problem.
Quote:
Don't flash anything after 18024 to this router, after 18024 you can only connect to the GUI via wireless. Which is an unsafe way to flash a router.
