I modded a fan outside of the case with an external power source. For some reason, the router reboots at random times with it on. The power lines are all external as well....why is this happening??

are you sure thats the problem because if it is external i think there should not be a problem unless the magnetic area affects the chips which i dont think because power is too low

I know it's weird! I even went as far as to place tin foil underneath the motor. Right now I'm running without the fan and there hasn't been any reboots as of late. The fan is still mounted to the case but it's no longer spinning. All signs point to the fan being the culprit.

This may sound stupid, but could the fan motor be interrupting the wireless signal somehow??

What kind of fan is it? The only thing I can think of (and this may be a stretch) is that the fan is creating electrical noise and interfering with the router.

It's a relatively small fan as you can see in the image. What you can't see is the power cord on the outside of the router going behind the ethernet ports.

Necro-bumping a thread from 2007. You are (on) a (t)roll.

That's a CRT monitor.... Smile

"Free Antennas WindSurfer".... website is still responding. And the grammar:

Putting or baking a device on top of a CRT monitor was definitely a bad idea. CRTs are hot devices.

It was probably a matter of failing AC power adapter / not adding a beefier power adapter / too much current draw by the fan OR possible failing caps on the SoC, since it's similar to the WRT54G* devices.
