Hey just wondering something for my WRT610N v2. I have a 2TB HD hooked up to it, NTFS formatted. (Didnt wanna add /opt or /jffs on that one, Might on a 2nd drive for it) But was wondering, could I install a eggdrop bot somehow using the routers memory. However store the logs and so on the NTFS drive? (Cause obviously a bot would constant write info, which is better to have on the HD vs the flash memory) I would assume maybe it could be done since minidnla stores its logs on the ntfs drive after I told it to.

Thanks. =)

eggdrop is available as an optware package... just make a small ext3 partition (1gb should be more than enough) and install optware the right way, links in my sig Smile

Well if your going to kill your router this way, then you should also install the Optware Tcl package. You need it for all the add-on packages.

If your just playing games with a lightly used IRC channel, then you will be fine. If this is a really busy channel, then your also killing your router. Maybe "killing" is a bad word? Expect things to get slow to dead.

Well right now I just started to use an outside shell server to run the eggie. But you see, I KNOW I can make a 1 GB partition for ext3, but I was wondering if anyone used partition images. Like if you could make a ext3 image file that the router could access from the USB hard drive storage.

Also question. Would the eggie still wear out the router if its running from the /opt and so of the hard drive?

Well that probably won't work. Your talking about a partition image and you would need one (an image) from someone currently running eggdrop on one of these routers.

If you want eggdrop to run properly, you need to start from scratch. Install the Optware binaries and probably Tcl for the plugins. Then configure it for it's current location and hardware.

That does not explain much? You can mount a hard drive or flash drive at /opt. Eggdrop likes to do a lot of logging and it's best if you allow it to do so. It uses a configuration file and if you set the configuration file to place the log files on a hard drive then that is the best idea.

Flash memory will last a long time if your doing lots of reads and only a few writes. Hard drives deal better then flash, with lots of writes.

Yea but I mean if I am running /opt from the hard drive. Then wouldnt it all be running from the drive? Or would it still be wearing out the router?

As for the ext3 image, Its like how I run Android on my phone via sd card. Can still install, it just loads a image file of the virtual drive. So wondered if there is a way to store a image file on the hard drive to use. (Without the need to partition)
