Oh boy, I finally ended up back here, it's been some time since I last visited the forum...

My story is, coming from a Linksys WRT160N in 2009 I upgraded to a refurbished 320N last year, when the crappy (latest!) original firmware caused the 320 to constantly lag and drop connections, which was fixed with dd-wrt in a heartbeat. However, the main goal of the 320, improved xbox live connectivity versus the 160, still wasn't satisfactorily achieved.
So recently I tried a D-link DGL-4500 (new off of Amazon) which I thought I had sucessfully identified as one of the "best gaming routers", according to some stuff I had read about it. But epic fail!! At least in my book. Despite of latest firmware (no dd-wrt available) this piece sticks out with what appears to be unusual low signal strength, seemingly causing low speeds, vastly depending on the location of the individual connecting devices in the house (much more than with the 320), randomly disappearing ssid, and needless to say that neither xbox nor ps3 are fun to use with it, except if you go wired. And for good measure, the ID readout says "Cameo Communications", and not even D-link. Maybe I've pulled a lemon, who knows.. Anyway this things got to go, and I was thinking to return to Cisco/Linksys.
I didn't want to spend a ton of money and the reviews on the latest E-Series aren't as good as I was hoping for, so I looked somewhat back and found the WRT600N apparently being a good choice (whose design I kinda dig more than the inconspicuous form factor of the successor models, but yea I know..it's just a router, not a car. Smile

So my question would finally be, who else has experience with the above Linksys routers in regards to online gaming, and xbox in particular by any chance?
Would you recommend the WRT600N, especially after upgrading it to dd-wrt? Or should I try the successor 610N?
Has anybody even set up a client or repeater bridge with a second WRT600N or the 320N?
I sucessfully got a client bridge up and running using the D-link and the 320N, but it took forever until the connection was established and the speed was uselessly low.

Oh and should you have any other suggestions as far as routers working great for you with xbox and ps3, I'd not be opposed to hear about!Smile

Thanks for your time, guys!

If you already have a 320 I would recommend another 320. I found build 15962 to be one of the best "new" builds.

I don't online game but I to stream video off the net and am very happy with my network.

Thanks, sounds reasonable. I see that you have 610's, which I wouldn't mind getting either, if justified. Do they run as stable with dd-wrt as the 320?

With my set-up all is stable with build 15962. The highest TX Power setting I use in my home is 20mW. Many people run the N-Routers at high TX Power to get that "perfect" 300Mb/s connection, which IMO causes many wireless issues. Unlike the old G-Routers that ran better with higher TX Power setting, new thinking is needed for MIMO devices.

The 320 and the 610v2 use the same generation SoC. The 320 has the 4716 at a slower clock, the 610v2 uses the 4718 at fast clock speed of 480Mhz.

The 610v1 uses an older generation SoC clocked at 300Mhz
