No mission impossible.
The main problem is the bootloader replacement.
BrainSlayer can use the same method used for the tonze/sparklan:
A preliminary firmware that replace the bootloader and then the final firmware.

I have a DWL-2100 AP that I have had to replace with a Linksys WRT54GS running DD-WRT in Client Bridge mode because the DWL-2100AP refuses to talk to a NETGEAR DG834GT when using WPA-PSK.
I'd love to get DD-WRT running on the d-link and put it back into service. Please note there are more than a couple of people waiting for the port. Please, is it really likely to happen?
i managed to get the factory dlink firmware back on with the art elf program,
i had to set the ipaddresses in the boot params of vxworks and then once in art, i could use the "ftpdownload" command to download the apimg1/backup files from a ftpserver on the same subnet, then i could use the the normal cli interface with the alpha/supermode/ftp/update commands and update from the dlink .tfp images to latest (also over ftp)
worked out well, but it seems when my main flash got corrupted something todo with the wireless hardware also either got corrupted or shorted so my dwl-2100ap appears useless
unless someone else can figure it out, i'll send it to you if you want

What's the status on this? Does any of the developers need one to make the port?
i haven't had the chance to play with mine anymore, but if i cant figure out why its not working, i could send it to someone if the shipping is not more than the unit costs new/refurb
