I have a Linksys WRT54GL, v 1.1,
Firmware v.4.30.14
I followed wiki and downloaded DD-WRT file dd-wrt.v24-12548_NEWD_mini.bin

Followed all instructions (30-30-30 reset, disable virus/firewall, flash through GUI interface, 30-30-30 reset, power cycle).

However, connecting to the router after the supposed flash would still only show the Linksys interface, not dd-wrt.

I went through the whole process 3 times now, with the same results each time.

Searching the form I seem to be the only one with this issue, which suggests I am doing something wrong. If so, can't figure out what it is, and would appreciate any suggestions or pointers. Thanks!

Try Micro first, see if it works

you gotta use a trailed build when flashing from stock.

flash a BS mini trailed build.. it will have "wrt54g" as part of the file name.
