So I attempted this upgrade process. Like another user, I was having trouble getting SSH to work so I just used telnet instead. To transfer the edited CFE, I uploaded it to my web server and used wget to put it directly in /tmp.

Everything seemed to go fine. The CFE was written without error, then I updated to dd-wrt.v24-14567_modified-e3000.bin (verified SHA1) in the web interface, checking to restore settings to default. After a few minutes I got a 'success' message from the Web UI.

While the LAN, WAN, and power lights are flashing, I only have LAN access and can not access the web interface at 192.168.1.1. I can not SSH or telnet in, but the router does respond to pings with TTL=100.

At this point I've tried a 30/30/30 reset, followed recovery instructions for this router, and tried to do a command line tftp.

I don't really want to do a serial report recovery. Am I boned otherwise? Where did I go wrong? I've checked and double checked the CFE file!

edit: Fixed it by using TFTP to install original Linksys firmware for E3000. I was then able to upgrade it to the dd-wrt firmware following the E3000 wiki directions.

Why? With the k3 kernel build, there is no need anymore. The only difference is nvram and the k3 kernel version gives 256k in both cases.

Well for me it boils down to geography... I only get to some of my deployed devices once a year, the furthest about 575 miles away.

After reading the experiences of others (thread link below) and having less than successful initial flashing experience with the K3.X builds myself...

I decided to fall back on the final Kong K26 Builds that I have more experience/comfort using (especially at these remote locations). You know the old saying "dance whit the one that brung ya"

That said, I've started to fall back into the fold testing BS builds & reporting results when/where I am able.

I've been keeping my eye on this thread:

if you are able to handle recovery, please test. if not. dont touch it.

BS has a WRT610N himself, and agreed with the previous version there was trouble. Only remark i can make is that my router is running the latest K3 code rock solid since i've installed it yesterday. it is snappier then ever, with stable and fast wifi.

If we change WRT610 to E3000 we will achieve more nvram. Are there any disadvantages?

What are the disadvantages of change WRT610N to E3000?

That on the bottom it says wrt610n v2 and not e3000.

Various users have various preferences in respect to best firmware for it, e.g. 14929, 15962 and 16785 seem to be most used builds for an E3000, but in the last year Kong 22000++ comes highly recommended. I currently use the firmware in my signature, so if you want a working SOTA firmware, use that build. However, I cannot vouch that radvd works properly in that build (maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, if you're curious you will find out for yourself).

@slobodan
Sir,
how do you manage to write on your (wrt610nv2 transformed in) E3000 router dd-wrt.v24-30826_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3000.bin?
I just upgraded mine 610nv2 to e3000,flashed dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-e2k-e3k.bin firmware.
I want just to be have a stable/recent version and to flash it correctly.
can you point me some tips for writing your version if it's worthing?
I still didn't figured out which 22000++ version I can to use and if the router becomed a FULLY E3000,meaning we can "switch" to e3000 original linksys/ddwrt fw for e3000.I suppose it's fully transformed in e3000.
best regards,pierre

Tip-

I found that underclocking the processor in the 320N to E2000 conversion helped with the compile.
I suggest doing the same with the 610Nv2...

Once you telnet into your 610Nv2,
underclock the processor from 480 to 400 MHz.

nvram set clkfreq=400,200,100
nvram commit

(Check me on these numbers, not sure they are correct)

It will reset to 480 MHz during the E3000 software flash, or you can reset it to 480...
