I think you are talking about a unit like the bellow showed. Is that right?

Suposedly it has:
CPU1: Realtek RTL8196C
FLA1: 8 MB (Macronix MX25L6445EM2I-10G)
RAM1: 32 MB (ESMT M12L2561616A-6T)

that's right.

Netgear KWGR614 also uses this Realtek chip and has 4mb flash and 16mb ram Smile

I still have a KWGR614 with the Netgear firmware. I am still searching community developed firmware forums on the net periodically but as far as I can tell nothing has been made for KWGR614 Sad

KWGR614 specs:
  • CPU: Realtek RTL8651B (200MHz)
  • Wireless: Realtek RTL8185L / RTL8225
  • Firmware: Based on Linux 2.4.26
So far the KWGR614 has performed adequately since changing to 2.4GHz 5dBi Indoor Desktop Omni-directional Antenna.

I was also looking at getting an extra WIFI AP to add to my home network. This one is an "Edimax BR‐6228nS v1" specs:
  • CPU1: Realtek RTL8196C (390 MHz)
  • FLA1: 4 MiB
  • RAM1: 16 MiB
As you can see it is yet another Realtek chipset. Does not look that open source firmware is popular with the chipset family. I was surprised to read that there is a common opinion about Realtek chipsets that they lack performance.

Are Realtek chipsets getting any better?

Are there any boards out there, with an RTL8196C

Given your experience with the RTL8196C boards, would the "Edimax BR‐6228nS v1" have enough flash memory (4MiB) to get a full version of DD-WRT?

I assume there is no way to tell what sort of boot loader Edimax router uses and it's similarity to the work you did a few years ago on a different brand?

In general are these boot loaders being custom built to save memory space?

I compiled the D-Link 2750u U1 Version 1.08 (RTL8676 Chip) for India using the open source Dlink has put on the Taiwan site.
I am not sure if I can put it here for everyone to use.

hi popcorn,

I had DSL-2750U U1 with IN_1.08
i sucessfully flashed your firmware.
Current Firmware Version: IN_1.08
Current Version Date: 07/01/2016-07:04:40

But now the 3G USB modem Huawei 173b-u1 is not able to connect to WAN.
the 3g page in advanced used to show
3G Status: Ready
Dialling ...Connected etc
Inform: stop
Now its showing
3G Status: Ready
Inform: stop

Earlier this function was working properly and able to log in to aircel 3g services.

Can you please test this and fix or else can you provide me the 2013's original stock firmware for this model

Hello jagdishadusumalli,
The firmware I have compiled is from the open source available on Dlink website. If the 3G dongle does not work in this firmware, then the dongle is not compatible with this firmware.

The firmware date is 07/01/2016-07:04:40 because on this date I compiled the firmware on my Linux computer...

This firmware is for Indian users who have DSL-2750U Dlink ADSL Wireless Modem and Hardware version U1 which uses RTL8676 chipset of Realtek. If anyone has upgraded to Middle East version ME 1.09 or ME 1.11 and would want to go back to Indian firmware version 1.08, I compiled it for them.

Hello, not sure if this thread is still active,

I picked up a DIR-822 RevC1 and am looking for DD-wrt firmware for it.

all i have been able to find is info for the REV A1 version.
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/D-Link_DIR-822_rev_A1.

not sure what the difference between the Rev A and Rev C are but the Rev A has an 8M flash and 64M RAM from what I was reading.
Anyone have any tech info for the RevC?

anyways, thank you in advance if you can help,

Great job opening up your router and providing that information.

I was hoping that D-Link would have changed out the CPU but looks like they kept the Realtek in there. Unfortunately Realtek CPUs are not supported and likely never will work with WRT firmwares. Look over the below links for more information.
https://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-detection
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices

My advice to anyone using router with Realtek CPU is go and buy a new (or used) supported WRT router. Then sell off (or give) your Realtek CPU router to someone else.

Make sure you can find firmware for your new router in dd-wrt's latest betas to ensure still being supported.
https://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads

PS,
I know that other WRT firmwares like LEDE don't support Realtek CPUs either.

I have buyed a router+repeater AC750W or UNT-750

Chip: RTL8881AN+8192ER
Flash: 4MB
SDRAM: DDR2 32MB

amazon.it/gp/product/B073JHDKCM/

Where i can fund a rom for RTL8881AN+8192ER of less of 4MB? i found only a openwrt link for a 4.4MB build for that chip in my search results on google.
I cant obviusely use it in 4MB flash.
