I am considering buying a cheap computer to install DD-WRT on. I have a number of questions that I hope can be answered. Thanks! They are as follows:
1. What are the minimum requirements and what is the benifit of this platform?
2. Does it run Sputnik Agent?
3. Does it have the same features as DD-WRT on my Buffalo router?
4. How will wireless connectivity work?
5. Is there a turn key solution for this build? (i.e. computer build)
6. Can it VLAN and do bandwidth control per connection?
I'd like to put this device at the front of a network of computers I have. It would be in front of 1 PoE switch and up to 10 PoE wireless APs. Thanks!
1. What are the minimum requirements and what is the benifit of this platform?
The minimum requirement is a SBC like WRAP.
The benefit is like riding on a Hayabusa Instead of a Moped
2. Does it run Sputnik Agent?
Yes it does
3. Does it have the same features as DD-WRT on my Buffalo router?
The features are someowhat more than that available in Buffalo Router ( Registered Version )
4. How will wireless connectivity work?
It is disabled in free version. It works flawlessly in registered version.
5. Is there a turn key solution for this build? (i.e. computer build)
TurnKey Means ??
6. Can it VLAN and do bandwidth control per connection?
You can make custom QOS Script for bandwidth management per connection which works pretty good. Search the Broadcom Section and you will find the script.
I wouldn't say it works flawlessly, it is still beta.
It does work very well. I have a WRT54GS and an x86 running DD-WRT. With my Linksys, I get around 2700KBps bandwidth, with my x86 I average 3300KBps with occasional peaks over 3800KBps.
WRAP boards, PC's, x86 version's benefit for me is flexibility.
I'm hoping for a final version soon, I don't want to flash a WRAP board on top of a tower if I can help it. _________________ mmm... forbidden donut....
