Just need an opinion...i currently have a link setup between a friends house about 3 miles out of town.

Equipment Used for this link:

Two WRT54GL
Two 14db Rootenas (everything enclosed inside) using POE

The one antenna is mounted on a 55ft tower, the other on a pole about 35ft. This link has been steady for about 6 months now.

Xmit Power is @ 175mw

Signal Signal Quality
-72 28%

I'm planning on setting up a 6 mile link to an 80ft tower. I'm debating whether I should set it up using two wr850g's with them mounted on the top of the towers like the current setup I am using (with homemade yagi's ...see below), or I if I should setup 2 x86 computers with mini-pci cards in them.

I'm afraid if I have to run about 100ft of LMR-400 it will diminish my signal too much just using a CM9 as I am only using some home made 15db Yagi antennas.

Homemade antenna info:

I did find Senao 2511MP PLUS which is (200mw) but then I realized it's only 802.11b. I don't really wanna put out the money for anything crazy high powered. Any input would be great. Thanks!

first of all, this is the wrong forum section.

2nd: 175 mw on a linksys is just wrong, you get a very dirty signal, dont use more than 84mw , anything higher with the linksys will decrease the signal quality !

you can still go this far with a good antenna ....

Your new, so I'm sure we will forgive you Smile but, since you ask. It is not specific to either X86 or the Broadcom based hardware, so probably General questions section. Maybe the moderator will move it there.
