Fails to mount root.....reboot.....does it forever.

I first attempted a web flash, it didn't take. That made me a little leary of it, as when this happened before, I had nearly the same issues.

Second, I scp'ed the .image file over, and dd'ed it directly from the console. Same booting results.

Third and last, I imaged the CF directly from another system. Same thing. I'm back to running 02-01-07 presently.

Same prob and also went back to working version 02-01-07

Last 4 lines (before it endlessly cycles through its reboot process):

VFS: Cannot open root device "hda2" or unknown block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS : unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
<0>Rebooting in 1 seconds..

This particular machine is a Biostar GeForce 6100-M9, socket 939/AMD Sempron 2400/512MB RAM. Booting from 512MB CF with IDE adaptor. All in all, a pretty new MB.

I will look for an updated BIOS.

UPDATE: A BIOS update did not make any difference.

i had problems flashing to most any version after 1-9-2007. I had to Reset to defaults when i flashed the firmware.

BUT However, still no SIP support. It is blocking outgoing traffic on the SIP port.

Annoying Smile still using 12-21-2006

Dunno why I didn't think of resetting to defaults. I will try this and let everyone know how it works.

EDIT: Resetting to defaults made no difference. However, once I did this, I was unable to restore my backup settings until going all the way back to 12-16-06 version. Did the restore, then reflashed back to 02-01-07.

Tried it on 3 moachnies:

1. IBM T30 Laptop (512 DDR) - 02-01-2007 is ok. Subsequent webupgrade and image transfers of 02-12-2007 did not work (startup looping indefinitely). Webupgrade initially worked and then system crashed on subsequent reboots.

2. IBM R52 Laptop (512 DDR2) - No version working

3. MSI 945GM3 - (1Gig DDR2) - No version working

Tried the famous 12-21-2006 version but no luck.

just tried 02-16-2007 on IBM R52 - same thing:

Screen message (last 8 lines):

ACPI: (supports S0 S3 S4 S5)
Time: tsc clocksource has been installed.
drivers/rtc/htosys.c unable to open rtc device (rtc0)
Time acpi_pm clocksource has been installed
VFS: Cannot open root device "hda2" or unknown block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS : unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
<0>Rebooting in 1 seconds..

after some googling came across various conversations on kernel panic.

The two machines that have worked for me have SATA drives (later model boards). The T30 is a older model and seems to accept the firmware.

DrWhizBang's comments at:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=59019

seems to have something to do with the fstab as well. Hope it's just a sata (read: config) issue.

2-16-07 is working fine for me, 2-12-07 worked also, my sip is working fine with both versions, no port forwarding, it just works, the ATA phone does have a static ip though.

also insmod sd_mod gives me access to my USB drives, emulated as scsi.
