Thinking about ordering this in case I brick my router, I believe it will work 3.3V. What do you think? (I would try and make my own but if you saw my past soldering you would rip the iron out of my hand)

Looks like it should work. Biggest issue I have seen with these is when you cannot find a proper driver for the OS you are using. Looks like they are giving info for that.
One word of caution, do not hook the red power to anything.
Really only need the transmit and receive but I would also connect the ground.
If you want to see if it is working get your terminal emulator software configured and short the transmit and receive then type something. Should see that echoed on terminal emulator screen. Good test if not getting anything when plugged into router.

Thanks for the input and heads-up everyone, just want to be ready in case it does have issues when updating it, or I will have to go back to my old G only router, and no one wants to do that!
Have a great holiday if you celebrate any! _________________ Tutorial for flashing WRT series WRT Installation,Upgrade & Basic Setup–Cliff Notes

I've read that while most routers utilise serial pins with a pitch of 2.54mm, the WRT1900AC(v2/s) uses a more modern standard of 2.0mm pitch for the pins, hence you need a TTL Cable that is made for those 2.0mm connectors or it won't be a snug fit and the connection wil be no good.
Has anyone actually used USB-TTL with the WRT1900AC and did they run into any trouble with the pins being a smaller diameter?
No i'm referring tot the pins on the PCB of WRT1900AC where you attach USB-TTL cable to the router, i've read that they are 2.0mm and thus a lot of USB-TTL can't really be used.
I also soldered on the correct pins onto the smaller pins on my wrt1900ac.
I just read it and there's nothing in there i didn't already know, and there isn't any reference to the WRT1900AC in there.
Thanks for responding though this conforms that you really do need a USB-TTL Cable with a pitch of 2.0mm.
If I’m not out of luck Santa should bring me two USB-TTL cables tomorrow one with a pitch of 2.54mm (the one Kong recommended), for use with my R7000 and another with a pitch of 2.0mm for use with my WRT1900ACv2.
The link was for the type of USB adapter. Not for using it on the wrt1900ac. Sorry I should have made that clear.
I've prefer three off the other type of cable like the original poster bought and none worked. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.

I haven't ordered it yet, but after reading the replies from everyone (Thank You), I am under the impression that since I have a v1 1900AC, that the cable should work?? Or am I wrong? _________________ Tutorial for flashing WRT series WRT Installation,Upgrade & Basic Setup–Cliff Notes

I think you should give this a read. Might help answer a lot of questions. Just scroll down to Serial Port as it will tell you all about it.

Sorry it took me so long, but thank you for the link, that explained a lot. I also just found this https://github.com/Chadster766/McDebian/wiki on the Linksys forum, which shows taking the router apart if it helps anyone else who is new to this. _________________ Tutorial for flashing WRT series WRT Installation,Upgrade & Basic Setup–Cliff Notes
