I just wanted to express my thanks for this very helpful tool. For some reason, my dd-wrt router decided to not honor my user name and password, and I got locked out of my router.
I was absolutely sure I had the user name and password correct, as I created a readme document and stored it in the same folder as the backup.bin file the firmware created. Still, I couldn't get into my router. So I reset the router, booted back up, and then used the restore function in the dd-wrt firmware, to restore the router back only 30 days. After I did the restore, the router again came back up, and I was still locked out!

After searching the net all night, I stumbled onto this thread, and this tool. I thought it may be helpful to other users as well. It saved me a lot of grief, to say the least!

Open the backup bin file in NAVRAM editor V.92
Click on the top header that says “Value”
This will sort all 1500+ lines of code by what ever is in the “value” column.
You are looking for Http_Username & Http_Password
They will both have a long string of hex numbers in the value column.
Click on the string of numbers, then in box below, highlight all of them, and delete them.
Do this for both the username and the password.
Save the newly edited Bin file to the desktop.

Now, reset the router. 30-30-30.
When router comes back on line, go to in your web browser.
Change the password and username, hit enter, then login with the new username and password.
After you are logged in, go to Administration then to Backup.
Select the file you just edited and saved on the desktop.
Restore the router with this file.

When the router comes back on line, log into the router now with:
username = root
password = admin

Once you are back into the restored router, be sure to reset the username and password

If Iron is still around, a simple suggestion:

It would be great to have a function that saves all of the current table as a set of nvram set commands... saving them either on the clipboard or in a file.
