Hi,
I am having some issues with my router in that it periodically stops responding and latterly my NAT rules are not visible until I click the 'add' button multiple times.
Can someone advise where I get the latest version of dd-wrt, the process to successfully upgrade (do I need a full reset/ can I backup/restore) and any Gotchas??
Like I explained to you already, for your current firmware version the safest way to flash without risk bricking the unit is to flash the file I explained via tftp.
Then when you have good known build any subsequent flashes can be done via webupgrade using the
Then upgrade via tftp. follow the instructions for debricking but only really use that to flash the file I mentioned.

this router is unbrickable
Thats simply not true. Its usually recoverable, but it does indeed brick. The method I suggested works fully and is quite safe, Ive done it several times.
Well, it did brick using the web gui installation. I couldn't quite work out how to do the TFTP upgrade so thought I would try the easy solution. The recovery process seemed well documented
Now trying to recover but the link to the TFTP software is dead and I cannot determine the file that I should be flashing - help!

Thanks again!
No worries. Look up pumpkin tftp i am pretty sure that is still easy to obtain. Also in the process there should be mention of running a arp command. That arp command is required run that a few times right after you plug power in to the router. If possible use a switch between the router and the computer especially if you are using a windows pc. No worries though the router is fixable without any special tools.
This is the latest pumpkin tftp software http://kin.klever.net/dist/pumpkin-2.7.3.exe
So here is a part of those instructions. These are the steps without any fluff from the tutorial https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Buffalo_WZR-HP-G300NH#Debricking_Info_using_TFTP
1) Set a static ip on the pc of 192.168.11.2 / 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.11.1
2) Open a command prompt and type this: arp -s 192.168.11.1 02-AA-BB-CC-DD-1A [enter]
3) After entering the static arp have the command line ready with this command (and you'll have to be in the dir where the firmware image is at or it won't work): tftp -i 192.168.11.1 put wzrhpg300nh-pro-v24sp2-17798-alpha.enc
4) Do not enter the TFTP command, just having it waiting for now, With the router still powered down, Plug in the power for the router and count to 10 seconds or use a stopwatch, then enter the TFTP command that you should have waiting in the command prompt. This is an important timing step for TFTP to work.
There should only be 2 file names in the directory for the device one is webupgrade. That is not the one to use i forget the name of the other one though. This has worked for me. The only changes i have made from these is 1 using pumpkin and maxing out the timeout period and 2 putting a switch between the router and the pc, this helped greatly. I think it was brainslayer that first pointed it out ( i could be wrong though ) but every time windows sees a interface is dead it simply stops using it and when it comes up it has to be re-initialized, now the window where the tftp is open is only like 4 or 5 seconds. So if windows sees the interface open it might take 2 seconds or so to initialize the interface so now you only have like a 3 second window to start the tftp transfer.
Thanks everyone for you help. That's me de-bricked and up and running the current firmware.
Lets hope it clears up my issues...
I have only used this as a wired router for the past year as it would fail regularly when wifi was enabled....might enable and see if it is stable now!

I only ever used windows cmd line with tftp client enabled in program and features > turn window feature on/off > check tftp client, you really dont need any 3rd party anything, but each to their own.
maybe I should open reports for the other issues on trac? _________________ Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH - Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r29440 std (04/11/16)

2) I was running the WZR-HP-G300NH and was having intermittent loss of wireless with various beta versions. I finally thought it was the hardware, and switched to the WHR-HP-G300N and the problem persisted.
Every 12-24hrs I lose wireless on build: DD-WRT v3.0-r28493 std with the WHR-HP-G300N. I have not moved to any newer versions because I have not seen any fixes which seem to address a similar problem. In order to regain the wireless, I use a wired connection. I go to the wireless tab and simply hit Apply Settings. I'm assuming this resets the AR9283 wireless interface, which I believe is the culprit. This restores my wireless traffic. I had previously enabled nightly reboots to rule out a memory leak or something. I also previously enabled a 120 second watchdog timer to trigger a reboot. Because the watchdog IP is accessible via LAN, the watchdog does not trigger. I am NOT trying to high jack this thread and get my own problems solved, instead I'm posting this as an anecdotal warning based on my experiences with the Buffalo's and recent beta versions. If I ever get the time, I'll do my best to properly troubleshoot the issue, rather than only isolating it, and open a bug report. Until then I'll just live with it.
Usual bugs, see report above
Ive resigned to the fat that webupgrades are not even worth the trouble.
@mitchd123, this router's WiFi has been reliable for many revisions... Clearly must be your specific router model.
FYI, it doesnt hurt to test newer FW now at least restoring config works. _________________ Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH - Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r29440 std (04/11/16)

Attached more bug reports not necessarily related to this unit but to DDWRT in general. _________________ Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH - Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r29440 std (04/11/16)
