I couldn't find the 56u or any better model in stock locally and I needed it today for my business so I bought it.

Is there a dd-wrt version that will work on it & whats the difference between the 56R & 56U?

Thank For Any Help!!

No difference, you can use the dd-wrt build from the rt-ac56u.

There is a difference though I will be the first to say I don't know what it is.
Tried using the 56U firmware repeatedly and it has never worked right, nearly bricking the unit in one case.

There is no difference between the rt-ac56u and rt-ac56r. None except the letter.

I don't know if there's an issue with the more recent builds or what, but the EXACT same issue I was faced with on my R6300 earlier tonight I'm now faced with on this device (went to wally world and bought it).

Devices just don't want to connect wirelessly. Going to take a stab in the dark and go back to a June build. Maybe this schtuff will be fixed soon.

Anyone with build recommendations would be appreciated.

Were you trying 27944?
Try 27858. I'm using that for my R6300v2.
