It seems to me that there are no specific versions necessary anymore.
My WRT-300Nv1 works fine with the most recent generic v.24 version of DD-WRT.
All special features might be implemented in the generic version so why should they provide any others, except micro/mini builds?

I'm sure you can use the generic on the Buffalo's you mention, the others should be fine too. _________________ Buffalo WHR-G54S, Generic Broadcom V2.4 Beta 2007-08-15, SD/MMC mod(2 GByte).

Because you must always use ....generic.bin for upgrade. It was always so. All specific bins are for tftp upgrade when first flashing.
This is a very interesting point, I checked the Wiki to find some info on this, but I didn't find this info. I tells you to get the right version, but which one to use is not explained in detail.
So do I understand it correctly that all the micro's and mini's in the generic broadcom (2.4 beta) directories are just for firs time install(tftp) of DD-WRT? And once this is installed one should upgrade to the generics via the web interface? When looking at the files now this starts to make sense but could use a little more attention in the Wiki. _________________ Buffalo WHR-G54S, Generic Broadcom V2.4 Beta 2007-08-15, SD/MMC mod(2 GByte).

In case I want to update my routers with the latest version,
what version should I upgrade:
wrt54g v1-2.2 now running with dd-wrt.v24_wrt54g.bin 16-06-2007
-> what file should I upload from 21-07-2007 folder?
(?dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin 21-07-07 ?)
wrt54gs v1-2 now running with dd-wrt.v24_wrt54gs.bin 16-06-2007
-> what file should I upload from 21-07-2007 folder?
(?dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin 21-07-07 ?)
whr-hp-54g now running with dd-wrt.v24_generic.bin 16-06-2007
-> what file should I upload from 21-07-2007 folder?
(?dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin 21-07-07 ?)
wrt300N v1 now running with dd-wrt.v24_wrt300n.bin 16-06-2007
-> what file should I upload from 21-07-2007 folder?
(?dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin 21-07-07 ?)
So, if I want to update to 21-07-2007, all 4 routers can run with
dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin 21-07-07?
=>One file for four different routers?

Yes, that is right, that's why it is called "generic".
So the other files in the directory's are only for first time usage with tftp. That is why there is no full version for the mentioned hardware anymore. The first time you must flash a mini version like mentioned in the wiki. Then switch to the generic micro, mini or full depending on your requirements and the amount of flash your device has. The generic now can handle more devices so no specific firmware are required anymore, except apparently for the first time flash.
But if this is so, I wonder why there versions are generated for each beta. If this is correct then only one specific firmware would be needed, and it doesn't matter which one. It would be best to freeze a version that is know to work. It is then basically just a launchpad to the generic version.

eko may. but i can do as well.
true
i removed all these files to prevent confusion by users. its neccessary to use the mini firmware on alot of linksys firmwares (not all)
and these special files are only required for tftp upgrade (debricking etc)
in any way. you need just the mini version for debricking or first install. for all other upgrades use the generic files. all are identical inside, just the header is a little bit different on the special file types to fit to the special vendor needs.
dd-wrt itself does accept all linksys special filetypes at webupgrade, but generic as well _________________ "So you tried to use the computer and it started smoking? Sounds like a Mac to me.." - Louis Rossmann https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL_5YDRWqGE&t=60s
