The new Archer C5 v2 uses probably a Broadcom chip, not a Qualcomm Atheros...

Take away "probably", it is Broadcom ARM based.

Single core BCM4708@800MHz, BCM43217 2.4GHz b/g/n 2x2:2, BCM4352 5GHz ac/an 3x3:3
Don't know memory specs yet but it is probably 16MB Flash, 64 or 128MB RAM.

Yesterday I flashed the 2015-03-05 build 26446 version for the archer C7 on my 3-antenna version of the Archer C5.
When connected the speed is fine but after a while my laptop or iPhone won't connect to the internet. I have a Ciscorouter from my ISP (cable) and use the archer as an accesspoint.
The wifi connection is still up and running but loading a webpage seems impossible untill I turn the connection off and on. Is there a "keep alive" setting that I don't know of?
(also happened with previous versions)

That is the the radios capability but it might be run with only 2 streams.
We have also example of routers with 5GHz internal antennas + 2.4GHz external so that is also a possibility for the C5v2.

I noticed the other day that my wireless connection had dropped overnight. I had to tell the computer to reconnect but haven't had any issues since. I have the three antenna version as well, v1.20 and am using the C5 release of dd-wrt.

MRSteakface, would you be so kind and tell me how did you flash your Archer (ver. 1.2 I guess) and with which version? Thank You a lot!

It's worth mentioning that I didn't use TFTP at all to flash my router. All my flashing was done through the router web interface. If I were you, I'd follow my steps EXACTLY.

1. Get the latest firmware from TP-Link. Right now, it's release 141126.
http://www.tp-link.us/support/download/?model=Archer+C5&version=V1.20

2. Do a 30-30-30 reset.

3. Log in to the router web interface and install the .bin you downloaded through the firmware/software upgrade menu (NOT TFTP).

4. After installation is complete, give it a few minutes to reboot. Then log in to the firmware to confirm everything is working.

5. Download a compatible factory-to-ddwrt release. The release I used was 02-26-2015-r26372. I have the link to it below.
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/02-26-2015-r26372/tplink_archer-c5-v1/

6. Do another 30-30-30 reset.

7. Log in to the router web interface and install the factory-to-ddwrt.bin through the firmware/software upgrade menu (NOT TFTP).

8. Give the router a few minutes to complete the installation. Then log into the firmware to confirm everything is working.

9. Do a final 30-30-30 reset.

10. Profit.

If you ever need to revert back to the stock firmware, you don't need to TFTP. There's a webrevert file for the v1.20 (v1) C5 in the sticky thread "Files for reverting from DD-WRT to STOCK FIRMWARE".
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85237&start=45
You can use this file in the dd-wrt web interface to revert back to TP-Link software/firmware. No TFTP needed at all for the C5.

How has performance performance and reliability been with DD-WRT on C5? Wondering if I should wait or give it a try right away.

I should be getting mine today.

Thank You for detailed info - I've done exactly as You wrote. I've tried to repeat procedure few times and ones even from the first version of stock firmware. It seems that this is not the right way for my Archer. Every attempt ends with single LED on (power) in eighth step. Here is some findings:
- the only firware, which could be instaled on my Archer so far is original firmware (both version) and - funny - OpenWRT (all through the router Web interface)
- after every attempt of installing DD-WRT is the only solution to make Archer alive again recovery procedure over TFTP (with original firmware only)

What is most interesting the Archer is only half-bricked after every attempt of installing DD-WRT and it seems initial initialization goes till boot. In this moment LEDs stops to signaling and the only power LED stay on. It look Archer waiting for triger to boot. Guessing ...

Again - OpenWRT works good and could be installed through web interface and revert to stock firmware over the TFTP as well. And just in case - due to my knowledge 30-30-30 reset means holding reset with router 30 second ON-30 seconds OFF-30 seconds ON.

Some further ideas are really appreciated,
Thank You!

Hi guys, big fan of DD-WRT here Wink

I have two pieces of Archer C5 (AC1200) router since last week and must say that it looks like a solid choice.

I can confirm MrSteakface's steps to flash the DD-WRT firmware on this device and even can confirm the revert procedure using web interface with revert file that can be found here on forum. So quite safe to play with it.

I have tested both stable and latest beta (26446) on my v1.2 device (FCC ID TE7C5). The only difference between stable and beta versions I've noticed is that older stable shows the router as C7 instead of C5.

But unfortunately, even that beta and stable firmwares both works from scratch when flashed through standard upgrade option in stock firmware, I've encountered noticable problems with 5GHz wireless using DD-WRT.

While with the stock firmware I was able to connect at full speeds (867Mbps) with my clients, using DD-WRT I was not able to get over 200Mbps and it was even quite hard to get the right configuration (channell width) that would work for me. Maybe I've got some wrong settings? Dunno.

Would like to heare more feedback about DD-WRT and Archer C5. The functionality of DD-WRT and stock firmware is incomparable so would be great to be able to set DD-WRT up and have it running on C5...

Currently using OpenWrt, but thinking about changing. How are the wireless speeds? That's my major complaint with OpenWrt... even slower than my RT-N16. Getting around 20Mbps 30 feet away.

Hi,

it's quite easy with DD-WRT but keep on mind that it is possible only by hour - not minutes. Stock firmware of C5 has schedule option only for guest access.

But my C5 still resisting to accept DD-WRT Sad
