internet access dies first. after firing up kiwi syslog, it shows nothing.
web admin is ok, but wan ip becomes 0.0.0.0.
after a minute, syslog shows nvram commit out of memory.
anyway to fix it?
uptime, about 10 hours, running some p2p etc.
free memory varied between 200k to 1.8M.

No problem here, running on a WRT54GSv4. Current uptime is now 22 minutes but it had an uptime of two days.

in the ip filtering (adjust these for p2p) in the management tab under administration set maximum ports to 4096 and timeouts to 90 seconds for both.

if you do ANY p2p you must change those settings.

nope, not voip version.
just generic.
anyone interested in investigeting my setting?
port(connection) limit was set to 3072 and now 2048 to save around 300kB of memory.
maybe it will increase some stability?

and the kernel is additionally using 3 mb for caching. this is a dynamic pool and the kernel will give you this 3 mb if you need it. so your router is running fine

In the DD-wrt/linux environment can this problem possibly be caused by running low on memory ? If yes, will a router with more memory avoid the problem, or just delay the problem because Linux is so bad at memory management ? When I run BASIC code in my GW BASIC interpreter, my available memory drops during program execution, but will usually (80% of the time) release memory in time for the program to continue running . 20% of the time I get "out of memory" error (random). Compiling the code to .EXE solves the memory outage problem of the 1986 year version of the BASIC interpreter that I use.

Edit - I have read that the *nix core is different about memory management. I'm just curios to know if *nix MIGHT run low on memory at times because of not releasing what is not needed, and cause service outrages. If this is true, it is very easy to set the unit to reboot once a week. Very Happy
