I've tried searching this question with no obvious relevant hits and the Netgear R7000 thread is 215 pages long, which would take a week to dig through in hopes the answer lies within...

Could someone share with me what the naming convention is for Kong [Netgear R7000] builds? I.e., how to know which is a "stable" release vs. say a development build.

I guess what I'm asking is how the heck do you know which latest release to flash once you update to dd-wrt?

Thanks,
Jeff M.

Releases are all based on the revision history of DD-WRT. I used to have a link to the timeline (for each changeset), but I have not visited it in a while and do not know what they changed it to.

What is considered "stable" are those builds that do not seem to cause any major problems for most routers. Some builds can be considered "stable" for a specific kind of router, but not others. Also, the "stable" builds tend to be tested more so than the "unstable" builds.

Most of Kong's builds are stable (unless otherwise noted in the revision history). Typically the latest builds are relatively stable by comparison since they usually fix something previous builds did not have.

EDIT: Apparently I was using an older link I had. The timeline is located here: http://svn.dd-wrt.com/timeline

Whoever builds firmware will build to that timeline (a specific revision). You can get an idea what is fixed (or sometimes not) by looking at the information on the changes.

You just have to read the info files I have on the ftp, e.g.:
