Regarding this router: http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_E3000

I've read all of the details and the peacock thread and every other thread that spiders off of this. I am thoroughly confused.

I want to use the NAS USB functionality. What is the latest build I can use and what do I have to flash prior etc. Trailed builds, nv60k builds and if its 18000 or above you have to use some other build...I don't know where to start and don't want to brick my router. Anyone out there have this router and can guide me as to what exactly I need to use and in what order?

Thanks and appreciate the help

For the first flashing from stock to dd-wrt you must use a trailed version ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/../../others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2013/07-24-2013-r22118/broadcom_K26/ - dd-wrt.v24-22118_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3000.bin
After that since e3000 has 60kb nvram use only nv60k.bin builds and you're done.

Before I brick this.
After I put the mini trailed one on here you pointed out, you say to use any nv60k build...i was going to use the mega from the same path: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2013/07-24-2013-r22118/broadcom_K26/

However the wiki states:
DON'T BRICK YOUR ROUTER! AFTER FLASHING WITH THE TRAILED BUILD, IF YOU THEN FLASH A BUILD THAT DOESN'T HAVE e2k-e3k in the NAME OF THE BUILD YOU ARE FLASHING YOU *WILL* BRICK YOUR e3000 ROUTER.

Still confused. Please advise.

Thanks

The wiki needs to be updated. Up to certain builds, the e2k-e3k was needed. More recent builds have changed over to a more common nv60k naming scheme.

Check the "Peacock" thread (see signature), Section "4", paragraph 3. It will tell you all of the information you need to know.

Finally got around to this.
I flashed this:
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/24/13) mega
(SVN revision 22118)

Seems to be fine except I can't get the wifi radios to work. The status says they are on; but I can't see them from any device.

Thoughts?

Thanks. Not sure what in that paragraph that was supposed to shine a light on my issue. I already went through the process of getting my build. It is not bricked. The wifi radio doesn't work. Can you explain a bit more what you were thinking?

Thanks

I think he thinks you should use the recommended 14929 build that section 4, paragraph leads you to if you click on the link contained in said paragraph.

That being said, I flashed build 29319 or whatever the latest is, this past weekend and I got the radios working with some work but since Murrkf didn't elaborate, I feel I shouldn't.

More specifically, the paragraph I was referring to was this:
Quote:
Make sure you know the nvram size of your router if is is a newer model (e2000, e3000, e4200) as you must flash a nv60 or nv64 on some of these newer router models. Also, if you router wasn't supported when 14929 or 15962 was released, using that build will brick it. See note 4, below before you flash.

While it does not elaborate that much, it does point to note 4. The paragraph in note 4 you should read is this:
Quote:
Additional Note for E2000 E3000 and E4200 etc. users:
Do the initial flash with the trailed build that contains your router model number...(example...xxx_e2000.bin for a E2000 model) Once you have done the initial flash...you can upgrade firmware using the build that contains xxx_e2k_e3k.bin for all subsequent flashes. (If you are using a 16758 or higher build, which is newer than is recommended, you must use a nv60k build rather than the e2k-e3k build - See the wiki for your router and this post: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=148350)

Builds with nv60k in the name can only be used with routers that have a 60k nvram space. Builds with nv64k in the name can only be used on routers that have a 64k nvram space. If you use one of these builds and your router doesn't support it, you will brick your router and will need a serial cable to fix it. If you don't use one of these builds and your router needs it, you will brick your router and will need a serial cable to fix it. These nv60k/nv64k are only being used in very new routers, and the need to use these builds, if it applies to your router SHOULD be explained in the wiki for your router. No k24 supported routers use nv60/nv64.

See this thread for specific models that must use nv60 or nv64 builds:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=156851

That explains it all.
