Hi
I had a Tplink TL-WR940N V2 router, i need help to setup dd-wrt firmware.
My router details:
Firmware Version: 3.14.5 Build 130709 Rel.36000n
Hardware Version: WR940N v2/WR941ND v5 00000000
I have tried WR941ND v5 firmware but got error
Error code: 18005
Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name.
I have also tried WR841 v5 but got same error.
Need help to solve the problem.
try renaming to some tp-link firmware name (download from tp-link.com), try moving it into a simple path (example c:\tplink\firm.bin), try using Internet Explorer to upgrade.
i'm sorry for the random hints but this is what usually solve 18005 when the firmware is correct but it's not accepted..
So... Can you post some details of what you tried and what's not working?
Thanks for answering. I still have not tried to flash the firmware, because the router is for my company and I don't want to brick it. I just wanted to be sure which is the correct firmware I have to flash, where I can find it and if everything is working fine, also all the antennas.
Thank you very much for your help, really appreciated.
HEY i know these posts are over 6 month old but the wr940n v2 have the same mother board as the wr941nd v5.1 the wr841n/nd v8.firmware will work on both of them but you will need to serial flash to get it on the chip if you use the GUI it will not go.
Greetings johnmkeynes. Do you know what the hardware version of your router is? You should be able to find it on the label under the router just after the part number. From there, goto the ftp site and download the corresponding version of dd-wrt. The links to the different versions are:
If you do not have either version 2, 3 or 4, I would recommend not flashing DD-WRT then, as you'll probably brick your router.
If you have a compatible router, then download the "factory-to-dd-wrt.bin" and use it at the "Update Firmware" section of the factory control panel. Make sure it is in fact a TL-WR941ND that you have.
Before flashing your router, check Youtube to view a few videos on flashing DD-WRT. It is really straight forward but a video or two might help clear a few steps up for you.
