Hello Everyone,

I have a Netgear WNDR4000 (N750) router running dd-wrt v24 build 21676 k2.6, while attempting to revert back to factory firmware something went funky.

I used what seems to be the preferred method of tftp'ing the factory firmware to the device, then waiting...and waiting...and waiting..nothing ever happened (about 45 minutes later) I tried resetting the router.

after several resets, and power ups/downs, and sitting and watching to see what happens...I only get 1 pin response from the router about 5 seconds after it powers up..then nothing.

Any help would be appreciated, I have been searching around for days for more information regarding recovery on this device with no success. I've tried various tftp methods time, and time again with no luck.

Thank you!

I'm sure I have a brick, but probably should have asked if anyone has any clue where the jtag/serial port is on this thing? if there is one?

Probably just a malformed question.

This, of course, is NOT the preferred way to do it.

It is, however, "a" way to do it:

http://stevejenkins.com/blog/2014/01/how-to-unbrick-a-netgear-wndr3400-n600-router-after-a-bad-dd-wrt-flash/

You'll need to find the right pins for your model, but I've done this a few times and (knock on wood) it's worked every time for me.

But if you have serial or JTAG ability, that's always preferable.

Let the flaming begin... Smile

Thanks to anyone that can send me the "pin short" method for WNDR4000. It's hard to find someone to create a serial cable for me.

Buy a serial cable. eBay has them for $2.

My WNDR4000 came with pins attached, so it required no soldering. Successfully debricked just using a TTL USB converter.

Can you please post a photo of these pins?

I didn't take a photo, but it looks exactly like this one:

See the vertical row of 6 pins just above the heatsink in the middle of the board?

Mine Bricked yesterday, so i tried to shorten the pins with a Screwdriver.
As you can see in the Picture, looks like i've found em.

I can give no guarantee that it works for you!

Power the Router on and shorten them for a few seconds or until the Powerled is blinking green (you have to be fast after power on).
Now you should have access via tftp and you can ping the router.

It's curious. every release i've tried after 21676 ends up in a softbrick....i don't know why (trailed build or 64k build doesn't matter; tried Brainslayers builds and fractals builds)
I have flashed many homerouters to dd-wrt but that never happened before.

Unfortunately, my board has different configuration. See picture...
