I have a question about the serial port on the WHR-G125. I read the wiki page and saw the pinouts but I need to get something clarified. I have read that the TX and RX pins work with 3.3V logic levels so my question is if the Vcc pin on the WHR-G125 board also means +3.3V? I just want to be sure because I bought a device that can supply both +5V and +3.3V and I don't want to end up destroying my router. Common sense tells me the Vcc on the router board is also +3.3V but I need to be sure. This +3.3V Vcc is to power the chip while it is being used by the cable? Does this mean you don't need to power up the router to use it?

In case anyone was wondering I bought this USB to Serial adapter to make life easier so I could avoid using MAX232 chip and an actual serial port since my laptop does not have one.

I looked at the MAX232 but went with the FTDI TTL-232R-3v3 and order it from Mouser Electronics.

The nice thing about the FTDI is the cable is done and you can take the pin connectors out of the cable end, rearrange them or use them individually. You can also download a tool from FTDI to flip the pins in/out nature etc. It is a bit more than the MAX232 but I find the cable, ends, and versatility make up for the few bucks more.
