Do you see the router rebooting in loops when you watch the leds or do you see them steady on? If the second, and no prompt is received on putty, the router might be for warranty. Why did you need to erase rootfs?

Hi Checho,

I bricked my wr1043 when I was trying to restore the factory firmware. Sad I see the router rebooting in loops when I watch the leds. Do you think I can debrick using the serial port?

DRAM error, only 4MB out of 32MB is functional.

I am trying to debrick a TL-WR1043ND.

Only power LED lights up.

I connected to it via PL2303HX serial adapter, and all I get in the terminal when booting is this:

Quote:

U-Boot 1.1.4 (Nov 17 2009 - 11:56:26)

AP83 (ar9100) U-boot 0.0.11
DRAM:
sri
32 MB

From what I've read in the forums, it shouldn't stop there and should also get this:

Quote:

id read 0x100000ff
flash size 8MB, sector count = 128
Flash: 8 MB
Using default environment
etc.

Could it be a DRAM failure?

No, I haven't. Couldn't get it to boot properly, my guess is that the bootloader is damaged, or the memory, and the solutions are too complicated (changing memory and/or chip). It's easier and cheaper to buy a new one.

Thank you.
I also can't stop running strings like
...U-Boot 1.1.4 (Nov 17 2009 - 11:56:26)

AP83 (ar9100) U-boot 0.0.11
DRAM:
sri
32 MB...

F..k look like my RS232-TTL adapter connected RX wire (recieve data) and can show this running strings. But no connected TX (transmit data) and can't stop this process. Because TX of TTL don't send my "tp" or "tpl" commands from keyboard.

copy 'tpl' to your clipboard, so that you can just hit ctrl-v to paste it into putty. you have less than a second to get 'tpl' typed correctly during the boot sequence

I used terminal console soft - "Termite"
It has history slider, as bash in Linux - just press "UP" and last command appears in command line. So you should just press Enter. But it didn't help too.

I usually use putty, right click ( same as ctrl v ).
I think your router's rx isn't working. Check if you connected properly.

Did you remove any resistor or capacitor?

No, you mean remove some resistor or capacitor FROM MAINBOARD of tp-link? I think if I remove any part of that - it will last day of flashing leds of router and death Smile
On RS232 -> TTL (named "DB9 converter" from eBay) no has any resistor.

Worked perfectly. After I had to do it over 3 times due to misspellings. Lol

Hi,

I have the problem with sending commands into router. I've managed to get information through serial port, but it seems like router doesn't want to react on my commands.

I was trying to type 'tpl' fast, then copy-paste, hotkey. It just do nothing and still reseting. The weird is that TX LED on USB<->TTL device is blinking while I'm typing tpl.

Do you have any ideas what to do?

Here is the dump from serial:

Code:
U-Boot 1.1.4 (Nov 17 2009 - 11:56:26)

AP83 (ar9100) U-boot 0.0.11
DRAM:
sri
32 MB
id read 0x100000ff
flash size 8MB, sector count = 128
Flash:  8 MB
Using default environment

Out:   serial
Err:   serial
Net:   ag7100_enet_initialize...

The router bricked after failure firmware downgrading:

Code:
mtd -r write wr.bin linux
Unlocking linux ...
Writing from wr.bin to linux ...  [e]Erasing mtd failed: linux
