I'm pretty happy with my U-verse setup out of the box and don't really want to change it. All my Non-U-verse gear media servers, PCs, Stereo, etc. are wired together on 2 gigabit switches. The problem I have is a VOIP box that has issues when my upstream gets saturated. In other words I can hear them but they can't hear me. Occasionally I will have issues with streaming to one of my XBMC media boxes from the internet.
My thought was that I could use a DD-WRT box to police the QOS issues I was having as the 2-wire ATT box has no QOS outside of the ATT brand VOIP and Streaming.
I'm a bit of a newbie playing with DD-WRT but I managed to buy a cheap Dlink DIR-615 and flash it with no real problems.
I need help with how to setup my box to allow my U-verse 2-wire to continue to do DHCP etc while prioritizing VOIP and other streaming services over bulk ones.
Good start would be to setup priorities on QoS page with MAC addresses. Give your voip box/device premium. Assign priorities to your other boxes as well. Then assign priorities to services and Layer 7 filters, giving SIP/RTP/RTSP premium because VOIP uses those protocols.
Another thing to consider is that you may not have enough bandwidth to do all of that and you might wanna upgrade your connection if you can.
