Hello everyone, and Happy New Year,
I was able to get dd-wrt on the wndr4500, but it only had pptp there. How do I get the open vpn option showing in the vpn tab? Or is this even possible? The vpn service that I use does not recommend pptp, and says I should use the openvpn...
I bought this router because it is listed in the supported devices on the http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Netgear but after reading this and other threads, it has been WIP for such a long time. So if I had known this, I would have gone for a router that is not WIP... Shoulda known, right?
If anyone can help get openvpn on the router, would appreciate letting me know.

This firmware does not support OpenVPN. However I am trying to prepare another release with OpenVPN.

myopenrouter is not the official source. you can straight download it from our ftp or by web. no need to use a external page. i never release firmwares on other pages than this one here _________________ "So you tried to use the computer and it started smoking? The WNDR4500 will be officially supported soon, as well as the R6300.
The builds for the WNDR4500 and the R6300 on myopenrouter done by tathagata are problematic for a few reasons:
-no chance to see the sources for a current build, also no reference to dd-wrt revision they used
-use broadcom drivers that cannot be downloaded
-no patches sent to dd-wrt devs
-dangerous to switch to another firmware later on, as they need to add new code for firmware upgrade checking that may work for them and current builds, but not necessarily for new dd-wrt builds, which finally can corrupt your router when flashing _________________ KONG PB's: http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/

so big fat warning to user "tathagata" if you wont release the sources or at least a full patches against a specified dd-wrt version (svn number) you offer, you will get banned from this forum and we will take any action to force down your download offerings which are violating the gpl license. i dont have any problems with forks and modifications, but you have to follow the rules.
you have 4 options.
1. release the full source for your builds
2. release a patch against a specified dd-wrt svn revision
3. contribute back your modifications directly to our project.
4. take own our dd-wrt downloads

I was tempted to try his build, but decided not to, hoping instead we'd see something more official here soon.
I've been running the most current pre-SP2 dd-wrt builds from the other downloads --> others --> eko path on my Dlink DIR-825 for several years. Love them. They are super stable and perform well. But I don't see any WNDR4500 builds there (or at least not under that model name). Is there anything yet that we can test? If so, I'm not savvy enough to find it.

I can test that once I create the first build for the R6300. I already prepared my sources for the R6300, just waiting for the broadcom drivers to show up in the public repo.
I had tathagatas build on my R6300 to see what driver he used, in order to create my own build. But there are only old dd-wrt sources with the old wireless driver up, that does not work with the R6300 and there are no sources for the R6300 with the driver I needed. The broadcom driver from the Netgear GPL Sources don't work with dd-wrt sources due to dependencies to ctf proxyarp ...
I'm sure the driver problem is the reason why you also don't see any tomato builds, I searched various sources, asus gpl, buffalo netgear etc. no usable driver for dd-wrt, openwrt tomato
So my own build based on kernel 2.6 already works on the R6300 but without wireless

i believe he simply did a firmware mod based on the original dd-wrt kernel. so he modded just userspace handling. i will check that

Since he is netgear employee he probably has access to the sources:-)
I tried to use his WNDR4500 sources to build for the R6300 and compared the files since he stripped out subversion revision info, thus it is hard to tell what he changed exactly, but I'm able to boot my unit with correct mtd partitions etc. I just have to leave out the wireless driver from the kernel as the 5.100 driver crashes on the R6300.
