Weird, I flashed the same rom on the same model, but gui doesnt seem to be slow to me. Only rarely but hangs sometimes. I just refresh the page and everything works smoothly.

Then I don't know, what's wrong.
My installation process was:
Download two update files from database
Update from stock FW to dd-wrt flash file (factory-to-ddwrt),
Update dd-wrt using second file from database (tl-wr941nd-webflash),
Update dd-wrt using file from the ftp (tl-wr941nd-webflash),
then Factory default settings.

It was slow from the first flash.

So I finally found it Cool
On my XP setup with Chromium I did complete clean with CCleaner and dd-wrt web interface started to work normally. Smile

Second think was Opera's slow loading: It seems that there's a bug in Opera 12.01, wich makes loading dd-wrt really slow. But on older builds dd-wrt works normal. I tried 11.64 and 9.64 and both are OK. Smile

There could be bugs in Opera 12 and in DD-WRT's milli_httpd. Please see these threads discussing this issue:

I flashed a latest development image (http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr941nd-v3-squashfs-factory.bin) into a TL-WR941ND ver 3.6 over an original firmware update page, but that was it - I received a BRICK. Just nothing is happening except some led blinking. No ping to the 192.168.1.1 will ever get any replies nor it is giving out any addresses nor it doing anything else. I tried reset (also 30/30/30) and qss button pressing (which does initiate rapid sys flashing), but nothing is changed by doing these things (no replies to the ping etc).

I didn't manage to find a wiki page for that device to read.
What to do next to recover it?

It seems to be some issues with the filesystem. How do fix it?

I can enter into the safe mode from the console, but there seems to be some issues with the network stack - I can see other devices in ARP table, but no ping nor telnet will get any answer from that box. Also, any attempt to issue any ping or telnet attempt out of the box itself will result a silence - nothing will happen:
Code:
Press the [f] key and hit [enter] to enter failsafe mode
f

At that point I'll not be able to gain a terminal line back and should unplug/re-plug the device.

So, what went wrong during my upgrade attempt?
Is there some command to try in the safe mode to fix the filesystem or reset the unit or ...?

Edit:
The firstboot command did the trick, but suddenly I realized something...
Sorry, I was sure that I had put a DD-WRT image into the box, but it turned out to be an OpenWRT one. How to change to DD-WRT one?
Code:

root@OpenWrt:/tmp# wget ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/

root@OpenWrt:/tmp# sysupgrade -v /tmp/tl-wr941nd-webflash.bin
Invalid image type.
Image check 'platform_check_image' failed.
root@OpenWrt:/tmp#

The same sysupgrade command with factory-to-ddwrt.bin did work.

I've never got my feet wet with open-wrt firmware, but did you had any luck in unbricking your router?

It makes me curious as there is a high risk of me also bricking my router by foolishly flashing to different versions as I'm having some troubles with the wifi connection ( described here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=720590 ).

Hello to everyone.

I bought in china the N version of this routter (from china).

Current software version: 3.13.7 Build 121018 Rel.59301n
Current hardware versions: WR941N v6 00000000

Even if my hardware version is number 6, I tryed to flash it anyway with version number 4 but i get the following error:

(google translate)
Error code: 18005
Upload the file version does not match with the models.

(I want to install dd-wrt to set up a vpn)

Thanks to all!

Try the factory-to-ddwrt.bin version instead:

ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2013/01-01-2013-r20453/tplink_tl-wr941ndv4/

However, it's for v4... it may brick your v6.

Hello to everybody! Sorry for my English, not my native language.
I flashed my TP-Link WR941ND v3.6 with 20086 build. Working good for several days. For this build and WR941ND router I can confirm that:
AP mode: works well
Virtual Interface under AP mode: works well
Client mode with PPPoE connection: works well
Repeater Bridge (Range Extender): works well
WLAN Repeater + WISP PPPoE Client mode: works well
Last one is actually Client mode with Virtual Interface enabled. Once you've done with settings for this mode, consider that you have to reboot router twice in order to get this mode working properly. Also,if some your wireless clients have problems connecting again to router after disconnection - than try to decrease key renewal interval to 15 sec (default is 3600 sec).
Encryption used in all testing modes is WPA2 Personal, AES algorithm.
I can confirm that front LED panel works well too. Wiviz survey: not working (at least not for me). CPU load is low, under 10% (haven't tested unit under heavy torrenting yet).
I hope that this infos will help someone who owns this type of router.

Hello!
Please help!
My tp-link router is wr941nd V3.2 with winbond chip and i bricked it completly.
I installed dd-wrt software and it worked well. I wanted to use router as repeater and make settings. After save and booting, the router not booting up. I read the forum and did serial connection. Via u-boot and tftp i tried different softs, but no success. Cannot establish any ethernet connection.
I thought to clear memory and start over again. nvram erase command did not work and used erase all. Stupid me!
Now u-boot missing. Can anyone help me, sending me right u-boot file and instruction how to load boot file back to my router.
Thank you!
Sorry my bad english.

Hi, I'm trying to install dd-wrt On a WR941ND v5.
now, the wiki states that the v4 firmware could also be used on v5(v4.x/v5.x) but when trying to install dd-wrt on it using the factory-to-ddwrt of any build from 2013 that's available for the v4 router i get the 18005 error:"Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name."

Is it possible to install dd-wrt on this router?
a bit more detailed version info:
"Firmware Version:
3.13.31 Build 130105 Rel.66489n
Hardware Version:
WR941ND v5 00000000"
