The device looks like having a proprietary bootloader which is closed-source, in any case it must be replaced at first before talking about booting linux. Changing bootloaders is not recommended for routers that are still in warranty period since this can be a reason to refuse it if it fails. Also 16 megabytes of ram is too little and not worth working, it may not work well with huge amounts of traffic.
